Did you feel the earthquake near Canberra?
Shook my place in Kambah.
Ironically, I was up just north of Yass in the Rye Park region yesterday morning doing racking audits…. Of course, the quake waited a couple of hours until I’d left.
It was a relatively minor event, but it’s still a good reminder that pallet racking systems can experience movement or stress during seismic activity.
In most cases, events like this one don’t cause serious damage. However, it is always worth doing at the very least a quick informal walkthrough of your racking to look for things like:
• displaced beams
• loosened safety locks
• damaged uprights
• pallets that have shifted out of position
If you notice anything unusual, or if your racking hasn’t been formally inspected in some time, it may be worth having a competent racking inspection carried out.
Minor events rarely cause major structural issues in properly designed racking, but they can highlight damage or weaknesses that were already present.
A quick check now can prevent a bigger problem later.
