We're incredibly proud to see the ASTRA 460 featured by Defence Central!

As the designers of this groundbreaking vessel, we at Versatile Marine are thrilled to share what the ASTRA 460 represents - a giant leap forward for Australian maritime innovation and sovereign defence capability.

The ASTRA 460 is the Southern Hemisphere's first ever 3D-printed Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV). Born in Western Australia, this 4.6-metre autonomous drone boat was designed by our team at Versatile Marine, manufactured by Hyperion Systems in Henderson WA using cutting-edge Large Format Additive Manufacturing (LFAM) and recycled polymer materials, and powered by Greenroom Robotics ' GAMA AI autonomy software.

⚡ Top speed: 40 knots
📡 Range: ~100 nautical miles
🛠️ Hull printed in as little as 40 hours
🔄 Modular payload system for surveillance, security & defence missions
🌊 Built from HDPE - tough, anti-fouling, and ocean-ready

What sets the ASTRA 460 apart isn't just its performance - it's the speed at which it can be produced and deployed. We're talking days from design to water, not months. And with production capacity scalable to over 100 units per month, this is a platform built for the demands of modern maritime operations.

Officially unveiled at the Indian Ocean Defence and Security (IODS) Conference in Perth, the ASTRA 460 was revealed alongside WA Defence Industries Minister Paul Papalia CSC MLA - a proud moment for our team and for Western Australian industry.

And this is just the beginning. A larger 8.4-metre variant, the ASTRA 840, is already in development - with a prototype headed to a European navy for a major exercise later this year.

That's a wrap on IODS 2026! 🎉🚢

What an incredible week at Booth One Bravo 15. We met so many amazing people, had so many great conversations, had the reveal of the Astra460, and came away more excited than ever about the future of maritime.
