At our recent Beyond Document Handover: Connecting Projects, Systems and Operations event, Document Control, Engineering, Quality, Information Management and Digital Delivery professionals came together to challenge traditional approaches and explore how emerging technologies, evolving project delivery requirements and smarter information handover can create better outcomes.

Hosted in collaboration with Oracle Construction and Engineering, Convex Engineering and Services and Preolas, the workshop highlighted the value of progressive handover, system integration and effective information transfer in improving operational readiness, reducing data loss and building a more connected information ecosystem. Driving home the real need to move away from the ‘box at project completion’ approach and instead treating information as an asset delivering value long after project handover.

Rob Mondi, Head of Energy Delivery, and Jules Bird, Project Engineer, from our energy team, recently attended the EESA WA Professional Development Summit 2026, From Vision to Reality: Engineering the Future of Clean Energy in WA.

The summit brought together leaders, engineers, policymakers, and energy professionals from across Western Australia to explore how the State’s clean energy vision is being transformed into practical outcomes.

“EESA reinforced that the energy transition is well underway across Western Australia. With significant investments flowing into power generation, storage, transmission and industrial decarbonisation, the focus is now on delivering the infrastructure need to support a reliable, lower-carbon future. Earlier this month Jules Bird and Aaron Priemus, Graduate EIC Engineer, attended the Women in Energy breakfast panel: The Net Zero Countdown to 2030, joining industry discussion around the funding, strategy and ex*****on needed to progress Western Australia’s path to net zero.

The panel presented a clear message: to reach 2030 targets there needs to be a strong push to get critical energy infrastructure projects across the line in all industries, with strategy realigned to prioritise the lowest cost of energy.

Jules, Project Engineer – Energy Innovation, said “With less than four years until our deadline, many industries are faced with skills shortages, supply chain issues, approval delays, and decision paralysis.”

“As 2030 quickly approaches, it’s no longer about ambition; it’s about executing the work needed to reach our targets. Last month, Adam Bartle, Discipline Lead – Ports & Marine, Luke Lyons, Lead Coastal Engineer, and Sam Smith, Senior Structural Engineer, attended the PIANC APAC Conference.

The conference brought together more than 460 engineers, planners, scientists and maritime professionals from across Australia and overseas to explore all things related to the nation’s diverse and developing ports and harbors.

Presenting at the conference, Sam shared insights into a digital inspection workflow that combined FastField, Power BI and automation tools to modernise visual inspections and support smarter maintenance decisions for maritime infrastructure.

While Luke unpacked the relocation of a critical navigation aid at the Port of Newcastle and the innovative engineering approaches used to navigate a complex geotechnical environment.

“It was a great opportunity to connect with others in the industry, see how they’re approaching similar challenges, and be able to showcase the work we’re doing in this space,” said Luke.

Working with council-operated storm water assets, our team developed an accurate hydraulic model of the Walsh Point Precinct, to facilitate a comprehensive understanding of the overall network capacity and future infrastructure performance.

Port of Newcastle Senior Manager Infrastructure Services, Shani Herat said, “Agilitus delivered excellent work on our Walsh Point Stormwater Model. They did a great job piecing together the many distinct and sometime difficult to interpret information sources and put significant effort in developing a user-friendly stormwater model tailored to our needs.”

“Agilitus went above expectations by outlining practical next steps to enhance future reporting and improve operational efficiency, while giving us confidence in the current state of our assets.”

Agilitus NSW Manager, Robbie Rochow said, “We were able to help PON understand the true performance of their stormwater infrastructure, providing data-driven, practical recommendations that supports their strategic decisions when assessing infrastructure upgrades."

It was great for Agilitus to be involved and deliver this ports and marine project.

Our Newcastle team recently had the pleasure of attending the inaugural EngBall in Newcastle, hosted by Engineers Australia – Newcastle Division and Young Engineers Newcastle. As a proud event sponsor, Agilitus was honoured to support an initiative dedicated to bringing together emerging professionals, industry leaders and engineering practitioners from across the Hunter region.

Representing Agilitus on the night were Kieren Tomalin, Mathew Bunn, Shaun Reid, Jasmine Gibson and Jeremy Cooper, who joined fellow engineers in celebrating the strength, diversity and future of our profession in the local region.

Jasmine, Undergraduate Mechanical Engineer said, “The event provided a fantastic night of networking, great entertainment and a vibrant atmosphere, bringing together professionals from across the Hunter to celebrate engineering and build meaningful industry connections.”

Earlier this month, Agilitus’ Jayden Catto, Cameron Maher, Matt Watts and Sergio Neves attended the ARA Western Australian Rail Industry Dinner.

The event brought the industry together to explore the opportunities ahead and the future of rail in Western Australia.

Jayden Catto, Head of Rail, said the evening highlighted strong confidence in the future of Western Australia’s rail sector.

“The keynote speakers spoke to continued investment in transport infrastructure, integrated transport planning across rail, bus and ferry networks, and commuter rail achievements.”

“In particular, heavy haul and freight rail continue to attract significant investment, with a range of upcoming projects supporting freight productivity. This presents exciting opportunities for Agilitus as we’re already delivering work across these sectors.”

As freight volumes are expected to grow significantly by 2030, rail is becoming an increasingly important part of Western Australia’s freight network. It will play a crucial role in supporting the long-term development of a stronger, more efficient transport network across the State.

Agilitus looks forward to continuing to support the development of rail infrastructure across Western Australia.

Congratulations to our latest Technical Award winners who have been recognised for their agile responses, strong client collaboration, and standout project contributions.

Jen Lee, Principal Structural Engineer, is being celebrated for delivering a rapid remediation (10 days from identification to fabricated solution!) for a previously unknown structural defect to support a complex brownfields TLO project. He is also being celebrated for his clever use of bolted connections to manage existing column misalignments enabling the installation of a gantry crane without site welding.

Darran Starbuck, Design Manager – Ports and Marine, design expertise and collaborative approach helped develop a marine works solution that responded to key navigational requirements while minimising impacts on the current works. Darran is constantly celebrated for his significant experience in coastal engineering as well his ability to demonstrate his ideas in the 3D space to support clients in making critical decisions.

Nominated by their peers, this award reflects the technical excellence Jen and Darran bring to their work – well done to both!
