How do you build a telecommunications tower where there's no power, no existing infrastructure, and no easy access?
That was the challenge on a recent project in the Esperance region โ a site with no grid connection, but a clear need: better mobile coverage for a community that's gone without it for too long.
The answer was a 60-metre greenfield tower, powered entirely by a hybrid solar solution paired with radio transmission โ engineered to keep the site reliably on-air without a grid connection. APD Global delivered the project end-to-end, from site acquisition and design through to construction, integration and commissioning.
It's a good example of what regional telecommunications infrastructure actually takes. Sites like this aren't always straightforward builds, and off-grid power is often the difference between a project being viable or not.
But the outcome is what matters most: better mobile coverage for the Esperance region, and better access to the things that depend on it โ emergency services, healthcare, local business, and simply staying connected to the wider world.
Projects like this are a reminder of the role telecommunications infrastructure plays in regional and rural Australia โ not just running a cable further, but engineering solutions that work for the communities that need them.
