Phase Two of Shane’s SJ40 rebuild is well underway. While Phase One focused on restoring the chassis and suspension, next phase is the bread and butter of any car: the motor and driveline.

Almost all of the driveline has been built from ground up - the F10A motor, gearbox, transfer and rear differential have been fully reconditioned. The front diff was still in good nick, only needing a quick once over.

The front end has also been upgraded from drum brakes to discs with new rotors and callipers, swivel hub overhaul, alongside fresh wheel bearings all round and complete with new steering linkages and fuel tank.

With the major mechanicals back in, Buzz is finally starting to look vaguely like a car again —— albeit a very bare one.

It’s about time Shane’s tired, long sitting SJ40, bought all the way from Esperance got some attention.

It’s not a pretty sight, years of grime, surface rust and corrosion - it’s definitely time to get this rebuild underway, starting with stripping back the Sierra to its bones. The body was unbolted and removed, the chassis degreased, pressure cleaned, sanded back and refinished in its original factory emerald green.

With freshly painted suspension components beginning to go back in, Shane’s SJ40 has solid foundation for the next stage in the rebuild šŸ‘ŒšŸ»

Time Capsule Series | Vitara

The trusty Sidekick, the getaway wagon, the so‑called ā€œluxuryā€ 4WD — yes, it’s the Vitara. When it arrived at the end of the 1980s, it marked a clear turning point for Suzuki. Until then, the brand was known for small, uncompromising off‑roaders built purely for the bush. The Vitara set out to change that.

Built as a true dual‑purpose vehicle, it kept the essentials - ladder‑frame chassis, part‑time 4WD, and dual range but added a wider stance, independent front suspension, and far better on‑road manners. It was still capable off‑road, just no longer limited to it.

Compared to the Sierra, the Vitara felt grown up. Where the Sierra excelled in tight, technical terrain through size and simplicity, the Vitara traded some of that raw edge for confidence at speed, improved comfort, and everyday usability. Suzuki built something balanced - a vehicle you could commute in during the week and then take exploring on the weekend.

Simple, reliable engines and a straightforward driveline made it easy to own and an ideal platform for modification. Lifts, tyres, and touring builds followed naturally, proving the fundamentals were right.

In doing so, the Vitara quietly became something new: Suzuki’s first true SUV. It bridged the gap between rugged off‑roaders and passenger‑friendly vehicles, it bought adventure into everyday life, redefining what a compact 4WD could be.

Decades on, its appeal remains unchanged: practical, capable, and thoughtfully balanced.

šŸ› ļø Meet Nate — the apprentice, the Suzuki fanatic, and the guy who’s probably already planning his next mod.

Nate’s passion for cars started young after getting his first Grand Vitara SQ at 16 and he quickly threw himself into building, modifying, and learning everything he could about the industry.

While still at school, he did a school-based apprenticeship in plumbing and warehouse work, before realising his real passion was in the automotive trade. He always knew he wanted to be part of a workshop that focused on quality builds, custom work and genuinely helping customers.

After spending plenty of time around the workshop - sourcing parts and chatting with the team about his Grand Vitara build - joining 4WD Partshop felt like the perfect fit.

Now, he’s continuing his apprenticeship surrounded by a team that values learning, teamwork and doing things properly. Nate’s very quickly become a solid part of the workshop - always keen to learn, help out and get stuck into the next project.

And when he’s not at work, chances are he’s still working on his Zook.

Glad to have you on the team, mate šŸ‘ŒšŸ»

We’ve been patiently waiting for someone to get this SAAS Gauge Pillar Pod. We installed this dual setup in Rob’s Heritage Jimny XL - running voltage and water temp gauge.
Also can’t go past the stainless steel exhaust system šŸ”„

Gauges aren’t just for looks (although they do tidy up a dash nicely). They give you real-time insight into what your vehicle is doing. has a wide range of gauges, we’ve picked out some of the most common:

šŸ”‹ Voltage – Keeps an eye on your battery and charging system. Super useful if you’re running accessories like fridges, lights, or winches.
šŸŒ”ļø Water Temp – Monitors engine temperature so you can catch overheating early (big one for off-road or towing).
šŸ›¢ļø Oil Pressure – Lets you know your engine is getting proper lubrication — low pressure = stop immediately.
šŸŒ”ļø Oil Temp – Helps you understand how hard your engine is working, especially on long drives or when pushing it.
šŸ“ˆ Boost (for turbo setups) – Shows how much boost your turbo is producing and helps spot leaks or performance issues.
šŸ”„ EGT (Exhaust Gas Temp) – Popular for diesel setups; helps prevent engine damage when towing or touring.

What you need really comes down to how you use your car — daily driving, touring, towing, or off-roading all have different priorities.

If you’re looking to upgrade your setup and not sure what gauges suit your build, flick us a message, we’re happy to advise 😊
Gauges are custom ordered to suit your vehicle šŸš™
