Our Chief Financial Officer Jonathon Teo and Administrator Julie Maher attended the Business Breakfast with WA Premier Hon last week.

CCIWA Chief Economist Aaron Morey facilitated an excellent Q&A session with the Premier and the entertaining cricket anecdotes and analogies added a fun touch to the morning.

It was great to hear from Hon Roger Cook MLA about the state of business in WA and the upcoming strategic investments in the state. The Premier shared the government’s goals to become a renewable energy powerhouse and to make more things in WA as key parts of their strategy to remain the strongest economy in the nation. The details of this plan and the opportunities it presents are set out in the Strategic Industrial Lands Activation Plan. The $250M plan builds upon current industrial land activation activities to provide a structured pathway for the development of WA’s Strategic Industrial Areas (SIAs). We are excited to have surveyors on the ground on projects, and business operations flourishing within some of the SIA nerve centres including Maitland, Boodarie, Burrup, Oakajee and Mungari. We look forward to supporting and being a part of the future activation of these centres and the associated infrastructure initiatives and developments.

Thanks to CCIWA, major partner , presenting partner and event patrons and for this informative and enjoyable event.

Congrats to one of our Senior Engineering Surveyors Campbell Pike for winning our team photo competition last month for this beauty of a pic featuring one of our new vehicles at Hearsons Cove in the Pilbara. Campbell pulled in and took the photo after a shift at one of our nearby projects on the Burrup Peninsula. Here’s hoping he captures a shot this month with the Staircase to the Moon in the background too! 📸🔺🔻🌝🌊✨

Last month some of our Hawkeye Services team were fortunate to attend an informative and really important General Awareness Training session facilitated by Gordo and Helen from .

The session was an opportunity for our team members to gain valuable knowledge, insights and practical tools to reduce the high level of su***de among Australian construction workers.

It was a wonderful experience to share and learn together so that we can support each other and become part of the solution across the industry.

MATES is an integrated industry intervention program that raises awareness of su***de as a preventable problem, builds stronger and more resilient workers, connects workers to the best available help and support and partners with searchers to inform industry around best mental health practice.

Gordo and Helen introduced us to the nature of the problem, let us know that it’s ok to talk about mental health, and provided us with practical guidance about how we can assist.

We look forward to some of our team progressing through their Connector and ASIST trainings and we’ll continue to champion the valuable work they do across Australia.

Hawkeye Services is proud to be working on another exciting project with , a business. This project marks the fourth year of our engagement with Melchor as we look back to projects together at Covalent Lithium Mt Holland Concentrator Project and Talison Lithium Greenbushes CGP3 Project. This time, with work well underway, taking us to the Port in sunny Geraldton for the .

The Geraldton Port Maximisation Project (PMaxP) is a major infrastructure project that will modernise and improve the Geraldton Port. The $350 million State Government funded project will be designed and constructed by Mid West Ports over a four-year period.

The Project includes upgrade works that will ensure the Port continues to meet the needs of customers and community in the years to come.

Hawkeye Services has been engaged by Melchor for the Berth 4 bulk materials handling facility survey requirements. We have the full scope to complete the survey works associated with the earthworks, concrete, and structural mechanical steel (SMP) requirements to construct an underground conveyor belt, increasing the Ports’ capacity to export material.

We’re excited by the variety of survey work on this project, particularly the unique terrestrial 3D laser scanning deliverables that we’ve begun offering the client to monitor the project. This technology meticulously maps the landscape and structures to provide a digital reality. This allows the client to analyse the data and intricacies of the site for monitoring, design, and forecasting future works. We look forward to providing more updates as the project progresses.

Hawkeye Services is proud to have achieved re-certification of our management systems with the careful and considerate support and review of Southpac Certifications. The inclusion of our Hawkeye Pilbara business partnership with was an important milestone of the re-certification process.

Southpac is a leading provider of management systems certification. Our business has grown, and our systems have adapted to meet those needs and deliverables. We made the move across to Southpac as a service provider because we felt their comprehensive approach met our dynamic business needs – and we weren’t wrong!

Southpac independently recognised that Hawkeye Services and Hawkeye Pilbara meet the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) certification requirements, and we achieved re-certification across the following three standards:
📋ISO9001 – Quality Management System
🦺ISO45001 – Occupational Health & Safety Management System
♻️ISO14001 – Environmental Management System

Southpac’s unique approach throughout the re-certification process focused on continuous improvement, collaboration, and adding value to our business. They are a JASANZ-accredited certification body, ensuring their certification processes meet international standards. JASANZ is an independent, government-backed organisation that has led accreditation for more than 30 years. JASANZ-accredited certification bodies such as Southpac ensure Australian and New Zealand products and services are globally recognised and respected.

We’re grateful to the auditor team at Southpac for their personalised support and clear reporting throughout the re-certification process.

Thank you to our whole team for bringing these standards to life – your work behind the scenes is greatly appreciated. It takes time to develop and refine these systems and processes that allow our project teams to continually deliver projects to the highest standard, and we’re proud of what we’ve achieved.

Congrats to one of our Senior Engineering Surveyors Campbell Pike for this winning Hawkeye team photo competition August pic.

A joyful Pikey is pictured with a celebratory candy cane (more on that below) in the Pilbara. It’s a winning pic for its uniqueness of surroundings and location, the extremes of working at heights (showcasing the variety of survey work across our projects) and the high importance we place on the safety and PPE of our people.

Some 8m off the ground, being harnessed to the internal reel fall restraint system allowed Campbell to safely set out the location and height of the concrete slab edge and hydraulic penetrations before the steel was dropped on top of the black wooden suspended sky deck.

Kitted out in steel cap boots, hi vis shirt, hard hat, safety sunglasses, and gloves Campbell is protected from the elements and risks of the work environment. The candy cane (Leica GLS115 mini pole and GMP111 mini prism reflector and holder) in hand gives him high positional accuracy and range up to 2000m. It’s a tool that expands our surveying capabilities and provides increased stability and reach in hard to get to spots when we need it.

In addition to seeing our guys in action enjoying what they do, we are loving the tech deep dive analysis that our recent monthly photo comp has been providing.

Is everyone hanging out for a plumb bob and plane table lesson like the days of old, next up? 🔺🔻✨

Last month’s Hawkeye team photo comp was a tough one with four great pics battling it out. Read the full caption for the brilliance of this pic.

Congrats and thanks to one of our Engineering Surveyors Zhenwei Rao for this pic of Survey Assistant Luke Sprigg on the tools.

This pic was taken around 4am while the guys were doing sets of angles. It was the last jigger setup for that night shift. On this project the track is inside the danger zone and can’t be accessed until night shift.

Upon first viewing it’s a great pic for its composition, the perspective, lights a glow, stars, high vis, interesting woven fence lace and rail features. With further consideration it’s an even greater pic because it captures a moment in time of one of our key Perth projects, a celebration of the team who have worked on that project and the unique survey opportunities it has presented to them and our business.

The final fantastic thing about this photo makes you smile and shake your head at the brilliance of Surveyors and the craft.

When asked for some info about the photo and what section of track it was, Zhenwei responded with ‘about Chainage 10672’.
Like, what!?

Maybe that’s just Zhenwei. Or maybe Surveyors are a special breed. Attentive to detail, quick and smart minds, frothers of angles and technical details, able to retain and record numbers and view, record, process and ponder the world a certain way.
For those wondering what ‘chainage’ refers to, here’s your education piece for the day: in surveying, chainage refers to the distance measured along a reference line, such as the centreline of a road or pipeline, from a fixed starting point. The term originates from the historical use of the ‘chain’ as a measuring unit but is now used with modern metric distances. It provides a way to locate specific points along linear infrastructure projects and is crucial for design, construction, and tracking progress.

We can only hope that this month’s winning photo is of a plumbob. Stay tuned.

Earlier this year one of our Lead Surveyors Rob Harman and Engineering Surveyors Yanni Ragousis thoroughly enjoyed delivering a large-scale UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) mapping outcome for our valued Client .australia at their Pilgangoora Operation.

The first image shows the scope of the 8000 hectares surveyed over the months of April and May, comparable to image two’s equivalent area if the project had occurred in the Perth metro area. It’s a lot of ground covered with some very cool technology!

Ground Control Points (GCPs) were distributed across 30 tiles at 1.1 x 1.1km each, permanent GCPs were used in plant and mining zones and ground access and GPS stakeouts were used to place the GCPs efficiently.

The UAV flight operations of the Trinity Pro reached a maximum height of 120 metres above ground level with the 30 tiles being covered from April to May with environmental wind and dust factors being managed through an optimised schedule.

We’re proud to deliver this kind of cost-effective alternative to traditional manned aerial surveys. Utilising fixed wing UAVs, the PLS UAV Mapping Project delivered high-resolution photogrammetric data to support environmental, planning, and exploration teams on the project.
