Well, it’s finally done! We’ve cleared everything out and officially handed over the keys. It was a lot - physically, emotionally, and mentally - and oh man… the dust and crap that had built up in storage… OMG 😅
But it’s done. A huge chapter has closed, and while it’s bittersweet, there’s also a sense of relief knowing we gave it everything right to the very end. Thank you to everyone who checked in, lent a hand, and supported us through the final stretch. ❤️
Thank you to everyone who has supported Scarboro Hardware over the past 42 years. We have truly appreciated every customer, every chat over the counter, and the trust you placed in us. Serving this community has been an absolute privilege.
We’ve always prided ourselves on genuine customer service - the kind where you can ask a question, get honest advice, and leave with exactly what you need. It’s sad for the community that there are now so few locally or family-owned stores left where you can still find that old-fashioned help and personal service.
Once these businesses are gone, they’re gone for good. Big chains can’t replace local knowledge, familiar faces, or businesses that genuinely care about the people they serve. Supporting local isn’t just about shopping - it’s about keeping communities alive.
Please try to seek out and support as many local businesses as you can while they’re still here. Look for plumbing suppliers, plant nurseries, building suppliers, reticulation shops, outdoor furniture stores, camping stores - the places run by people who know their trade and value their customers. Every time you shop local, you help keep experience, jobs, and community alive.
FAQ #1 We’ve had a lot of people ask why we’re closing, and we want to be very clear about this. It is not because we “can’t compete with them anymore.” (That narrative is honestly insulting). We’ve held our own for many, many years and are incredibly proud of that.
The short version is this: the shop and the carpark are owned by two different people, and both properties are for sale. Our lease covers both, but it officially ends on 31 December.
The carpark is being rezoned to residential, so in time it will almost certainly become units. Without customer and truck parking, we simply can’t operate the business. That’s the reality of it, plain and simple.
FAQ #2: What are Jarrad and Narelle going to do next?
Narelle has already landed on her feet and is happy to be staying in the industry she loves and continuing to work with people who value proper service and community.
Jarrad, on the other hand, is taking a very well-earned break – not quite the four lots of long service leave plus 130 weeks of annual leave owed 😂 After that, he’ll take some time to work out what comes next. No panic, no rush… just a breather first!
And finally, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe, happy holiday season. Thank you again for being part of our story - we truly couldn’t have done it without you 🎄❤️
