Every casting starts with a process that demands skill, timing and teamwork.

Inside the Dobbie foundry, molten metal is carefully poured into moulds, transforming raw material into the components that go on to support critical industries across Australia.

It’s a process that combines decades of foundry knowledge with the right equipment, careful control and, most importantly, experienced people who know their craft.

October is National Safe Work Month, an opportunity for workplaces across Australia to focus on work health and safety and take practical action to create safer, healthier workplaces. The 2026 theme, “Safe work is for life”, highlights that safety is about protecting people’s lives, health and future, both at work and beyond.

In a foundry environment, where our teams work with high temperatures, heavy equipment and molten metal, safety is an essential part of every stage of the process.

Testing and inspection are integral to maintaining quality throughout the manufacturing process.

At Dobbie, Brinell hardness testing is one of the many ways we verify the material properties of our castings and confirm they meet the required specifications before moving forward.

Our broader testing capabilities include microstructure and spectrographic analysis, tensile testing, MPI, DPI, radiographic and ultrasonic inspection, all helping to confirm the quality, integrity and suitability of castings for demanding operating environments.

It’s one of the many quality checks that support consistent, reliable outcomes across our foundry operations.

A new chapter for Dobbie.

After 16 years as General Manager of Dobbie, Bruce Swan has stepped back from the role as part of a planned leadership transition. We are pleased to welcome Mark Richards as Dobbie’s new General Manager, taking responsibility for the day-to-day management of the business.

Mark brings more than 35 years of experience across manufacturing and engineering, having led businesses throughout Australia and Asia. A trade-qualified boilermaker, Mark brings a practical, hands-on approach to leadership, with a strong focus on developing people, building strong teams and continuing to improve the business.
While stepping back from the General Manager role, Bruce will continue his association with Dobbie as Defence Manager, supporting our ongoing Defence activities and maintaining his involvement with Standards Australia technical committees.

We would like to sincerely thank Bruce for his leadership, commitment and contribution to Dobbie over the past 16 years, and look forward to the experience and perspective Mark brings as he leads Dobbie into its next chapter.
