Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) is one of the most important milestones in the Motherwell Automation system integration delivery process. It’s where Motherwell Automation prove the solution performs as designed, before it ships to site, helping reduce risk, avoid rework and supports a smoother commissioning and startup.

A comprehensive FAT is the final line of defence before deployment. Motherwell Automation engineers rigorously validate hardware and software against the project requirements, using realistic simulation and structured test procedures to ensure the system is ready for the next phase of delivery.


Why FAT matters:

✅ Identify design gaps, logic issues and hardware faults early (when they’re cheaper to fix).

✅ Reduce commissioning time and minimise site disruption.

✅ Validate PLC, HMI and SCADA functionality under real-time simulation.

✅ Confirm alarms, interlocks and sequence behaviour before deployment.

• Communications: End-to-end connectivity (e.g. Modbus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP and related networks).

• Functional performance: Alarms, permissives, interlocks and sequence simulation.

Honeywell ControlEdge RTU a powerful, modular and scalable controller capable of all remote automation and control applications, granting users an edge into realising the best utilisation of their distributed assets through efficient remote monitoring, diagnostic and asset management capabilities.

The ControlEdge RTU is designed to withstand harsh environments and for easy deployment at remote sites. It also allows remote maintenance, thereby reducing the need to travel to the field. This solution offers a unique combination of capabilities:

~ Operates in harsh environments with low power consumption – ideal for remote installation and operation on solar power.
~ Increased availability through native controller redundancy – no switch required for I/O communication.
~ Hart-enabled onboard I/O and expansion I/O modules
Removable and plug-in terminal blocks simplify wiring and reduce time for cabinet assembly.
~ A new onboard wireless I/O solution– no specialized modules needed to integrate ISA100 instruments. Both wired and wireless I/O devices are programmed and managed with same configuration tool.
