Major components are in, steelwork is moving, and the building still goes up another two storeys from here.

Good to hear MSM Milling are happy with how it's tracking, and we're looking forward to seeing it through with them.

When Bob and the team at MSM Milling say the crew is passionate and proud to be involved, that's the kind of feedback that means more than any number on a page.

Good people, good project, good outcome.

Everyone sees the finished job rolling out the door.

Nobody sees the hours of setup, positioning, and prep that happened before a single weld was laid.

03/05/2026

By the time the guys arrive on site, the work is already planned, parts are sorted, and the paperwork is printed.

The job during the day is just keeping it moving and making sure nothing gets in the way.

Prep is everything. Clean metal, right settings, steady hand, and maybe go easy the night before.

Jimmy's been doing this long enough to know exactly what separates a good weld from one that gets ground back out.

Working above a live conveyor belt with no room for error.

That's exactly the situation on this apron feeder refurbishment. The feeder had been running for over 20 years and was completely worn out. Top head chutes, skirts, structure, the old chain conveyor, all the drive components. Everything had to come off and be replaced.

The catch was that the conveyor belt underneath couldn't be shut down. So every component we removed had to be carefully rigged and lifted clear without dropping anything onto the running belt below. One mistake and the whole plant stops.

We worked through it methodically, got everything installed and QA'd, and had the feeder back in service within two weeks.

It's the kind of job that looks straightforward on paper but requires a lot of planning and care to pull off properly on site.

The bit no one sees: drawings land in the workshop with details missing, and someone has to track down the answers before a single cut gets made. That back and forth is just part of the job.

Most people don't think about what happens when scrap steel makes it through a conveyor system unchecked.

It damages infrastructure further down the line, creates unplanned downtime, and turns a small problem into a costly one fast. A belt cleaning magnet system is one of those things that quietly does a lot of work in the background.

KMS were engaged by a local Parkes client to handle the full scope on this one: fabrication, civil works, and site installation. We completed the early works during a scheduled shutdown, then had the full install wrapped up in about a week.

There were a few minor issues along the way, as there always are on site. We sorted them, closed them out, and handed the project back clean.

15/04/2026

We had a fabrication and site install project where a lot of the detail engineering done upfront turned out to be wrong. So essentially everything we went to install had to be cut, modified, and reworked on site.

That process cost time. It pushed the schedule back and added cost that wasn't in the original budget. We closed the project out a bit behind and a bit over, but everything was installed to the right standard and the client got a good outcome.

Sometimes that's just how it goes. You deal with what's in front of you and you get it done properly regardless.

Tired of chasing shutdowns and living out of a bag?

KMS is based in Parkes and we're currently looking for fitters, boilermakers, riggers, and a project manager to join the team in the Central West.

What you're seeing in this video is the MSM milling extraction plant at Manildra. We've been on site since January. The extractor, vertical stripper, tanks, pumps, and major drive components are all in, and there's still a lot of work ahead.

If you're based around Parkes, Forbes, Orange, or Dubbo and want consistent local work with a company that's been delivering projects like this for over 10 years, it's worth a conversation.

For the right person, there's also a full-time project manager role available. If you've been leading crews and want a regional role with genuine responsibility and long-term stability, we want to hear from you.
