I’ve taken a bit of a break from making as we are full tilt on renovations at the moment. But here are some things I’m working on.

First pic is a knife I made a looonnnggg time ago but didn’t believe I had the skill or patience to finish. It’s rusted yes, but a few minutes on the grinder and it will be schmick.

Also got a couple of Damascus knives and billets in the works. Hopefully for sale soonish.

to finish an old knife that I started early last year when I got my .artisan.supplies reaper belt grinder.

It’s shocking the amount of knives and projects us makers put to the side. I’ve made at least 20 knives that I’ve not finished. Mainly due to feeling that they aren’t good enough.

Now I’m going through all of them and seeing what I can do to complete these projects. I want this year to be the year that I learn the most and completed the most.

The part of knife making that no one likes, no one sees but is integral to a good finish.

I’ve spent more time than I like to admit sanding knives and handles. It’s the worst. But results are worth it.

Not much to say about this but, it’s big, it’s sharp and it was a challenge.

My son’s first knife (still a work in progress).

He won’t be able to use it until he’s older, but I wanted to make him something special.

My boy is 5 and helps out in the forge regularly. He’s always getting up to mischief with my tools and asking a million questions. I love that he’s showing interest in my passion and that he’s constantly trying to build things… and sometimes violently deconstruct them.

I reckon kids should be hands-on — electronics down, curiosity up — to help balance their development and, in my opinion, their soul.
