Using rotating rock teeth in standard soil? Here’s what can happen.
In standard soil, soil can bind the tooth inside the pocket, stopping it from rotating properly. This can create a flat spot on the side of the tooth and lead to premature wear.
It’s also why you shouldn’t use lubricant to keep the teeth rotating. Fine dust can mix with the lubricant and create a paste that prevents the tooth from rotating.
The best solution? Check your teeth regularly. If a tooth is stuck, tap it with a hammer to free it or hose the teeth down to clean them out.
And before storing your auger between jobs, always hose down and clean the teeth.
A little maintenance can help keep your teeth rotating and wearing as they should. 🔧

The Digga Bigfoot makes life easier for less experienced operators and hire companies - with the foot flat on the ground, the spoil auger is automatically set at the correct height.
⚠️ Too low? The auger can hit the ground, robbing the trencher of power and momentum and slowing trenching speeds.
⚠️ Too high? The spoil auger won’t clear the soil away properly, allowing spoil to fall back into the trench and need to be removed again.
The Bigfoot takes the guesswork out of setting the correct auger height — helping operators keep spoil moving, maintain trenching efficiency and get the job done faster.

From the cab, a hole can look straight but every degree off plumb puts side load on the auger and drive shaft, which means extra wear on gear you need running.

Digga’s two-piece shaft design is engineered to protect the planetary gears from excessive side load.
The separate shaft design helps isolate the planetary gears from pushing, pulling and bending forces. The planetary gears are responsible for multiplying torque inside the drive, so reducing side load on these components helps protect the gearbox and extend service life.
The shaft is secured with a heavy-duty custom lock nut, helping deliver the industry's highest pullout rating.
Excessive side load on the shaft can cause the shaft seal to leak, requiring replacement. One-piece shaft designs, similar side loading can transfer stress into the gearbox and potentially result in more extensive and costly repairs.
Two-piece shaft. Less side load on the planetary gears. More protection where it matters.
