Last month our team represented LAB FAB at the Cobar races as a sponsor.

For most businesses that is just a marketing decision - for us it is personal.

Our founders grew up in Cobar. That town shaped us. The people there taught us what community actually looks like - showing up for each other, backing the local businesses, celebrating together and getting through the hard times together.

We still have family and mates there.

When LAB FAB gets the opportunity to put something back into that community - we do not think twice.

Service baskets take a beating on mine sites. They’re exposed to the elements, used hard, often damaged through operator error, and in our experience often don’t get the regular attention they need.

The reality is that a well-maintained, regularly inspected and an in-date certified service basket is safer for the person inside it, keeps the site compliant, and lasts significantly longer. A basket that gets inspected, repaired, and re-certified on a 12-monthly basis will outlast one that’s left to deteriorate by a long stretch.

This week the LAB FAB team completed a full refurbishment and re-certification on a service basket for a mining client.

The service basket was sent to our facility where we started with a thorough condition inspection, and provided a detailed repair quote before any work began. From there we replaced heavy-duty hinges, latches and damaged hardware, straightened handrails, carried out a full sandblast, completed non-destructive testing (NDT), fitted new certification plate, a new asset plate, and finished with a fresh coat of paint.

This basket has returned to site in excellent condition, structurally sound, fully compliant, and with a lot more working life ahead of it.

One thing we see time and time again in the mining industry is lifting attachment certifications & repairs getting pushed down the priority list until they become urgent, or worse the mine inspector picks up on it. It’s understandable, sites are busy, but the risk just simply isn’t worth taking.

Keeping lifting attachments certified and current isn’t just about ticking a compliance box. It’s what protects operators' day to day, keeps sites audit-ready, and ensures equipment holds up over the long haul rather than being written off prematurely.

This week, as part of a recertification program on lifting attachments across an entire fleet for a mining client in NSW, the Labfab team refurbed & re-certified an IT Jib attachment. We carried out full structural inspection, completed non-destructive testing (NDT) to identify any defects not visible to the naked eye, fitted new certification plates and updated asset plate numbers, and finalised all compliance documentation.

Last Friday our team at Labfab stepped away from the workshop and into the kitchen at Ronald McDonald House Central West NSW for Dinner in a Dash, preparing meals for families after long days at the hospital.

The work the team at Ronald McDonald House Central West NSW does is nothing short of incredible. They provide more than just a place to stay- they create a genuine support system for families going through some of their toughest days. The care, compassion and consistency they show makes a real difference, and it doesn’t go unnoticed.
