🌍🏡 International Passivhaus Open Day: Invitation to Visit My Home! 🏡🌍

đź“… Date: Saturday, 29 June 2024
📍 Location: Perth, WA

Exciting news for those in Perth! To celebrate International Passivhaus Open Day, I'm opening the doors to my home, the first Passivhaus Plus built in WA in 2018. This is your chance to explore a pioneering example of sustainable living.

Since moving in 2019, I’ve been meticulously logging indoor air quality metrics and electrical consumption. During your visit, I’ll share 5 years of performance data, answering questions such as:

• What is it like living in an all-electric Passivhaus?
• How much does it cost to operate an all-electric Passivhaus?
• How hot does it get in the summer?
• How cold does it get in the winter?
• How much does it cost to heat and cool a Passivhaus?
• How does a Passivhaus perform during heatwaves?

🔍 Special Demonstration: I’ll have a blower door installed for a free demonstration of an air tightness test.

Whether you’re already familiar with Passivhaus principles or just curious about sustainable living, this is a fantastic opportunity to see real, unfiltered performance data and experience a home that sets the standard for energy efficiency and comfort.

Come join us and learn more about the future of housing! 🌱✨

Perth is currently under an extreme heatwave weather warning, and it's been tough for many of us. But have you ever wondered what it's like to live in a high-performance home during these conditions? Check out this insightful video to get a glimpse of what it's like to live in a home that's designed to withstand extreme weather circumstances. Stay safe and cool, everyone!

Following on from my last post, not only is all-electric healthier and more efficient than gas, but it's also cheaper on the wallet!!

A very insightful study just issued by Renew - Limiting energy bills by getting off gas.
Renew has conducted independent modelling on the increasing retail tariffs Australian households pay for electricity and gas.

The analysis concludes that household energy bills will increase most for gas-connected households.

Increases are still expected for all-electric homes, but these increases are smaller than those for dual-fuel homes. All electric homes with solar are expected to experience the lowest overall energy bill increases in all capital cities; thermal efficiency further limits expected cost increases.

Another excellent video from Efficiency Matrix!
Evaporative coolers are very low-cost to operate in summer. However, they significantly impact winter heating costs. Efficiency Matrix suggests that if you are building a new home or replacing an old evaporative cooler, you are better off with split reverse cycle units. Enjoy…..

Evaporative cool works very well on dry, hot days, but on humid is rendered useless and costs significantly to heat your home in winter, during the colder cl...

Australian homes are colder in winter than houses in Greenland.

An interesting (although somewhat shocking) research by the University of Adelaide: 81% of Australian homes are below the WHO-recommended minimum of 18 degrees in winter! Time to change this!

The “Cold homes in Australia” study found that Australian houses were colder than the World Health Organization’s minimum temperature guidelines.
