HunterNet General Members Meeting – Proudly Hosted by TW Woods

Last night, HunterNet members came together for our June General Members Meeting, proudly hosted by the team at TW Woods Fabrication and Heavy Engineering.

A sincere thank you to TW Woods for opening the doors to their Tomago facility and providing members with the opportunity to connect, collaborate, and gain valuable insight into one of the region’s leading heavy engineering and fabrication businesses.

The evening was made even more special as we joined the TW Woods team in celebrating their remarkable 60th Anniversary! A significant milestone that reflects six decades of dedication, innovation, quality workmanship, and contribution to Australian industry.

Members were treated to an impressive tour of the workshop, providing a firsthand look at TW Woods’ extensive capabilities, skilled workforce, and the exciting projects currently underway. It was a fantastic reminder of the world-class manufacturing and engineering expertise that exists within our region.

It was a fantastic evening to welcome and hear from new members Allegro Energy, LGH Australia and Anitech Pty Ltd/Lahebo, alongside industry updates from Dr Thor Slater at NSW Smart Sensing Network and Irfan Malik (MAICD) from the Australia - India Industry & Advanced Manufacturing Cluster Bridge.

Great to see strong engagement at this week’s Southern Strength Agile Manufacturing Network session, with a fantastic turnout bringing together industry, government, and key partners focused on strengthening local capability.

It was valuable to hear from NSW Minister for Finance, Domestic Manufacturing and Government Procurement, and Natural Resources, Courtney Houssos, who reinforced the importance of building a resilient and competitive domestic manufacturing sector supported through smart government procurement and long-term capability investment.

We also appreciated insights from Daniel Chaplin | General Manager | Downer Group, highlighting the role major industry partners play in developing and sustaining local supply chains and advanced manufacturing capability.

The message throughout the session was clear: we are on the same team. When industry, government, as well as organisations like HunterNet and Southern Strength work together, we strengthen sovereign capability, open doors for local businesses, and ensure the Hunter and broader NSW manufacturing sector continues to grow and innovate.

Thank you to Southern Strength and all those who contributed to the conversation. The energy in the room reflected a shared commitment to backing local industry and delivering real outcomes for our region.

Another fantastic HunterNet General Members Meeting this week, proudly hosted by Hall & Wilcox.

A huge thank you to the team for welcoming our members into their wonderful newly established premises. It was a fantastic space to connect, collaborate and share insights across our network.

We also extend our thanks to our panelists Suzie Leask GAICD, FGIA, Albert Ponte and Clare Kerley for an engaging and insightful discussion.

The conversation sparked plenty of thoughtful questions and great interaction from the audience, highlighting the value of bringing industry together to share perspectives and experiences.

The NSW Department of Education is promoting two fully funded TWDS training programs for businesses in manufacturing and industry.

The first, on 25 May, focuses on ESG and sustainability using Material Flow Analysis to help organisations measure environmental impact, improve resource use, and identify practical sustainability actions.

The second, held 26–27 May, explores Future Manufacturing Technologies, including Industry 4.0 and 5.0, covering automation, AI, IoT, digital twins, cybersecurity, and other emerging technologies, with a focus on building a transformation roadmap.

Both programs aim to strengthen business capability in sustainability, digital transformation, and future workforce readiness.
