How is GFRP sustainable?

The damaging environmental impacts of traditional steel rebar are well known. Steel takes a large volume of materials to manufacture, and leaves a larger carbon footprint. By comparison, GFRP is a sustainable building material alternative. It requires significantly less energy in production, producing 43% less CO2 emissions, both at production stage and during transport and installation.

It’s also highly durable, meaning it can be used in structures with a longer lifetime, requiring fewer materials to be manufactured and used in repairs and rebuilds. Where steel reinforcement corrosion can cause cracks to appear within 5-15 years, tests of GFRP have shown that it can last twice the life of steel rebar, increasing the structural integrity and concrete strength from 50 years to 100 years (ISO 14025).

Where you place your glass fibre reinforcement in your slab depends on the application and use of the slab.

In instances like pavements and non-structural slabs, glass fibre reinforcement should be placed in the upper third of the slab. For structural applications, glass fibre reinforcement must be placed in the middle or bottom of the slab.

The right placement helps you create a stronger, more robust slab, ensuring you deliver a better project.

This was a bigger project using 520m2 of Durabar , but made so much easier by using this reinforcement product , easy transportation, lighter weight , less labour needed to install plus so much more .. Get rid of the old steel mesh and start using Durabar now ,you will wish you had started sooner 😎

Answer : Absolutely 💯 you will not come across a more suitable product for coastal areas! Due to Durabar being a non corrosive product you are never going to get concrete cancer unlike if you were using the old fashioned steel mesh in your job.
