Pneumatic actuators have a ceiling. For one of Australia's highest-volume food packaging lines, that ceiling was 20 packages per minute.

Rising compressed air costs, worn seals, leaking valves, and washdown compliance gaps were compounding the problem. The line needed a better solution, one that could handle high cycle speeds, meet food-grade hygiene requirements, and fit within the existing footprint.

Powerbox supplied the Dunkermotoren ServoLinear SL 38 STL. An IP69K-rated, stainless steel linear servo actuator with a fully integrated drive, programmable motion profiles, and a compact form factor designed for direct retrofit.

The result: 30 packages per minute. A 50% throughput increase. Reduced energy consumption. Fewer failure points. Full HACCP washdown compliance.
It was also the first live production deployment of this actuator globally — with this Australian site now providing the benchmark data driving adoption across international food and pharmaceutical packaging lines.

Battery theft at remote sites is a real operational problem. Replacement costs, unplanned downtime, and the logistical burden of servicing isolated infrastructure all add up.

Every Polarium Gen5 lithium battery includes a built-in Anti-Theft function. If a battery is removed without authorisation, the BMS detects the movement and begins an eight-hour countdown before automatically disabling output. Once locked, the battery can only be re-enabled by an authorised technician using a Polarium-issued activation key through Polarium Studio.

A stolen Polarium battery has no resale or reuse value. By design, theft offers no reward.

For operators managing remote telecommunications, utilities, or off-grid control systems, this adds a meaningful layer of site security. No additional hardware required. Just specify Anti-Theft activation at the time of order.

Winter is almost here.

Shorter days. Cloud cover. Rain. For remote CCTV, telemetry and critical monitoring sites, that combination is a stress test your power system either passes or fails.

There is no middle ground at 3am when the cameras go dark. Powerbox designs and manufactures off-grid power systems specifically for these conditions, built and tested in Australia for Australian environments.

Our Solar Power Box handles the majority of DC-load applications reliably. Where solar alone cannot carry the load through winter, our EFOY Pro + Solar Hybrid adds intelligent methanol fuel cell backup, extending autonomous runtime from days to weeks with no generator, no grid, and no site visits.

Pre-wired. Pre-tested. IP-rated. Remote monitoring and alarming included.

The sites that matter most are rarely the easiest to reach. A power failure is not just a technical problem. It is an unplanned site visit, an unhappy client, and a question about why the system was not specified better from the start.

If your site can afford to lose monitoring, there are plenty of low-cost, low reliability options out there.

If it cannot, talk to Powerbox. Dependable power. Anywhere. Anytime.

For many remote communications sites in North Queensland, road access is limited or unavailable. In these cases, everything required on site may need to be lifted in by helicopter, from towers and solar structures to outdoor cabinets, battery modules and major power system components.

That makes physical footprint, system weight and module count direct contributors to project cost.

A recent government infrastructure programme required DC power systems delivering five-day autonomy across multiple remote communications sites: no road access, ambient temperatures regularly above 35°C, tropical humidity, and significantly reduced solar generation during the wet season. Secure government voice and data links depend on these sites staying up, year-round, unattended.

The solution had to be engineered around real site constraints. Outdoor cabinet space on mountaintop sites was limited, existing enclosures already housed communications equipment, and every additional cabinet would add cost, installation complexity and additional helicopter lifts.

Powerbox engineered complete solar hybrid DC power systems integrated with Polarium NMC lithium-ion batteries. At 12.9kWh per module, a 3.4:1 capacity advantage over the alternative evaluated, the Polarium modules delivered the required autonomy with fewer battery modules and a more compact overall system architecture. Fewer modules meant fewer lifts.

Fewer cabinets meant lower site impact, reduced installation complexity and a better fit for space-constrained mountaintop deployments.

The integrated BMS handles cell balancing and temperature management automatically, removing the need for manual equalisation on unattended sites. Real-time telemetry feeds state of charge, voltage and alarms directly to the system controller for remote monitoring.

The result: five-day autonomy specification met, reduced battery module count, optimised outdoor cabinet footprint, fewer helicopter lifts across the network, and a maintenance profile suited to sites that cannot be visited on short notice.

13/05/2026

More than 98% of the world's LFP battery cells are manufactured in China.

That concentration means two cost pressures now building inside Chinese supply chains flow directly to buyers everywhere, including Australia.

Lithium carbonate, the primary raw material input, has gone from 70–80 CNY/kg through 2025 to over 150 CNY/kg today. At the same time, China's phased removal of its VAT export rebate is adding further structural pressure across all Chinese battery exports.

Running together, these two factors are pushing lithium battery module prices up by an estimated 15–20% on new orders being placed now. That figure doesn't yet include the full rebate elimination scheduled for January 2027, a second round of adjustments should be expected as that date approaches.

But here's what doesn't change.

A quality VRLA battery in cyclic service delivers around 1,000 to 1,500 cycles at 50% depth of discharge. A well-specified LFP system is rated to 8,000 cycles over 15 years. That's a five to eight times usable cycle life advantage, which means fewer replacements, fewer truck rolls, and lower total intervention cost across the life of an installation.

A higher upfront cost spread across 8,000 cycles and 15 years of service life consistently returns better value than a premium VRLA alternative replaced three to five times in the same period. That calculation does not change because raw material costs have moved.

For Australian buyers: the TCO case for lithium remains strong. What's worth acting on now is lead times, pricing validity, and volume commitments — before the next price revision lands.

We've published a full breakdown of what's driving the increases, what to watch, and why lithium still stacks up:

Distributed security infrastructure has power requirements that conventional UPS was never designed to meet. Long runtimes, harsh environments, unmanned sites, and mixed AC and DC loads across CCTV, NVRs, access control, and PoE switching.

The right architecture reduces commissioning complexity, reduces nuisance alarms, cuts maintenance overhead, and outlasts conventional UPS on every lifecycle metric. Delta Electronics Rectiverter systems are built for exactly this.

✓ Powers mixed critical security loads from a single system: CCTV, NVRs, access control, PoE switching, and more
✓ Battery capacity sized to the runtime, not the UPS frame
✓ Zero transfer time on mains failure
✓ N+1 modular redundancy, no single inverter failure point
✓ Designed for use with Polarium lithium-ion batteries, resulting in small form factor, long lifetime and operation in high temperatures
✓ Smartpack remote visibility across every site from one interface
✓ Mixed AC and DC loads from a single 48Vdc bus

We've published a full technical article covering the architecture, the battery strategy, and where conventional UPS still makes sense.

Redundancy in DC systems is often specified, but not always implemented correctly.

Simply paralleling two power supplies can introduce risks like backfeed, uneven load distribution, and unpredictable behaviour during a fault.

A properly designed redundancy architecture uses controlled decoupling to ensure stable, predictable operation when it matters most.

In this guide, we break down:

• Why diode-based decoupling is critical for true redundancy
• What voltage drop actually means for your system design
• The difference between redundancy and load sharing (and why it matters)
• When a dedicated redundancy module makes more sense than relying on internal PSU diodes

If you're designing or specifying DC power systems for industrial, telecom or infrastructure applications, this is worth a read.
