On the ground in Miling!

Our team is putting the ground to the test as part of the CBH Grain Storage Extension Project, carrying out Perth Sand Penetrometer (PSP) testing on an embankment lift.

It might look like a simple test, but it plays an important role in construction quality. PSP testing helps verify that the placed fill has achieved the required compaction before the next stage of works can move ahead.

From the ground up, it’s all about making sure the foundations of the project meet specification.

Great to see our team out in the field supporting another important project in regional Western Australia!

It’s more than just a pile of dirt!

Our team in WA has been getting their boots dirty carrying out stockpile sampling on site.

While it might look simple, collecting a representative sample is an important part of ensuring the material being tested accurately reflects the stockpile as a whole.

A few scoops in the field can provide some pretty important information back in the lab!

Good sampling = reliable testing = better data.

And with a backdrop like this, there are definitely worse places to spend the day!

Meet Jac Coad, Operations Manager for WA & NT at Civiltest.

When Jac joined Civiltest as a trainee soil technician in 2018, he had no previous materials testing experience. However, he quickly developed a fascination with the science behind the work and set himself the goal of learning every test he could.

Since then, Jac has progressed through technical, laboratory management and project management roles, relocated to Western Australia during COVID-19, and helped grow Civiltest's WA operation from three people to a team of more than 60.

In his careers feature, Jac talks about the people who supported him, the challenges he has overcome and the opportunities created by working with other businesses across Phenna Group.

With Father’s Day just around the corner, we couldn’t think of a better reminder of how much our dads inspire the next generation. 💙

One of our employee's sons has already decided what he wants to be when he grows up - just like his dad! 👷‍♂️

From the work boots and hi-vis to watching Dad head off to work, it’s clear he has a pretty special role model to look up to.

Our teams across WA and the NT have been putting the pressure on - quite literally - with Plate Load Testing across mining operations and major project sites.

Plate Load Testing provides valuable data on the bearing capacity, settlement behaviour and stiffness of the ground, helping engineers make informed decisions about how site materials will perform under operational loading.

Using a steel plate, typically 300 mm, 450 mm or 600 mm in diameter, loads are applied incrementally using hydraulic equipment while settlement is carefully measured and recorded. The results provide a clear picture of the ground's load-deformation response and bearing performance.

Plate Load Testing is commonly used for crane pads, working platforms and other heavily loaded areas, with our teams currently supporting clients across Perth, regional WA and the NT.

Another example of Civiltest delivering reliable field testing where our clients need us, from metro projects to remote mining operations.
