I’ll admit, since using the Unrivaled Engineering Cleveland sump brace my confidence in the thin oil pan rails on these sumps has dramatically improved.

I still have no idea why they made them so thin from factory, although the sump brace really adds that extra security across the whole pan rail and helps clamp the sump down much firmer and more evenly.

Definitely worth checking out if your sump has the thin pressed pan rails.

Also don’t overlook the optional stud kit, that’s the other half of the magic with these sump braces. 👌

Friday morning progress in the workshop.

Malcom’s stout 440ci small block Chev rotating assembly is coming together and will be going in today. Bearing clearances are finalised and now we’re onto ring prep and file fitting.

One tool that makes this job far easier is the Total Seal electric ring grinder. A good little trick with these is swapping the standard abrasive wheel over to a diamond wheel. The finish is cleaner, accuracy is far better, and it’s allowing us to hold ring gaps within ±.001 right across the set.

Another simple tool that earns its keep is the Unrivaled piston ring squaring tool. Using a dedicated squaring tool in the bore just makes far more sense than handling brand new pistons repeatedly during setup.

READY NOW. Another 427 Cleveland package built, dyno tuned and ready to purchase. $33,000.

These 650hp packages have turned out to be our best seller by far, with unbelievable mid-range performance and a long torque curve that keeps the car pulling extremely hard. Using a dual plane air gap intake and 2V heads, there are no issues with needing special headers or bonnet clearance, and shakers can be used.
