The Minns Labor Government is continuing its commitment to safety on farms with SafeWork NSW delivering agricultural safety workshops to more than 80 women across regional NSW.

Women working in agriculture across regional NSW are being empowered to lead safety on farms through the Women in Agriculture: Leading Safer Futures workshops which highlight the critical role women play in shaping safer farming practices, while also showcasing how innovation and technology are driving sustainable improvements across the sector.

Agriculture remains one of the most dangerous industries in NSW with 11 workplace fatalities on farms in 2025.

The workshops, facilitated by Bralca, provided practical, hands-on education aimed at managing high risk hazards in agricultural workplaces, supporting mental health and wellbeing, and using innovation and technology to improve safety on farms.

The workshops also demonstrated how innovation and technology are transforming farm safety and productivity with the use of drones to assist in tasks often carried on quad bikes, with Minister for Work Health and Safety Sophie Cotsis and SafeWork NSW Commissioner Janet Schorer given a drone demonstration on a farm near Wagga.

Bralca Operations Manager, Brooke Watts said:
“You can’t put a value on a life. Through these workshops we were able to showcase the return on investment using ag tech can provide.”

Great to see Ben out presenting to students at this year’s annual Bedgerabong Pig Day, hosted by the Bedgerabong Show Society last week. The event brought together producers, industry representatives and students from across the country, including attendees travelling from WA and SA, with more than 250 people attending throughout the day.

A huge highlight was seeing around 140 students involved from:
• Medville High School
• Yanco Agricultural High School
• The Henry Lawson High School
• Narromine High School
• West Wyalong High School
• Parkes Christian School

Events like this provide a fantastic opportunity for students to gain exposure to the pig industry as a whole and explore the many career pathways and technologies shaping agriculture. Ben's session focused on the practical use of technology in agriculture, including:

🐗 Using technology to identify animals as a pest management tool
🌱 Technology applications for monitoring crop health and supporting on-farm decisions

Always great to see students asking questions, engaging with industry and seeing first-hand how technology continues to create opportunities and solutions across agriculture. Thanks to the Bedgerabong Show Society for continuing to invest in industry connection and the next generation of agriculture.

⭐Are you wanting to learn how to use a drone on your farm OR how to map your farm and utilise the data using a drone? Now’s your chance!

🚁🌾 Drones are transforming modern agriculture — from precision crop mapping to smarter livestock management. With high-resolution aerial imaging and real-time data, farmers can monitor crop health, irrigation, and soil conditions while also tracking livestock, checking fences, and locating animals across large properties quickly and efficiently. This technology helps reduce costs, save time, improve yields, and support more sustainable farming practices. The future of farming is smarter, faster, and flying above us. 🐄📍
