Comprehensive rebuild on this Land Rover 2 litre spread bore petrol engine for a 1957 Series 1. Reground camshaft, all new lower rocker arms and rocker shafts, the block was decked, cylinder head skimmed and overhauled, new cylinder head rear cover, new cooling water pipe. Land Rover Series 2 axles in the workshop for complete overhaul. Axle assemblies fully stripped down to component form, inspected, thoroughly cleaned, all moving parts replaced,all housings sent off for blasting and coating. New OEM chrome balls, wheel cylinders, brake drums and shoes fitted. The front axle has the early ‘pendant style’ steering arms and has been upgraded to the Railko pin and bush type. Preliminary bodywork is now complete on these Land Rover Series 1 front guards. Repaired using traditional techniques, the now retired body repairer has re-shaped the guards from a very poor state to a now useable condition. Guards are now bare aluminium after removing all the dents, cracks, and badly applied body-filler typical of 76 years of age. Test fitting is crucial to ensure panels fit correctly onto the vehicle before the paintwork begins.

Refurbishment of original Lucas Altette horn and Lucas headlamps for a Land Rover 1948 Series 1, 80-inch. Headlamp reflectors were re-silvered, which completely transformed them. Headlamp bowls and bezels freshly painted, glass lens fitted and now ready for wiring.

Woven 27 row, lights behind grille repair for 1948 Land Rover Series 1 (80-inch) has come up nicely. Later model lights behind grille vehicles had 26 rows. Often the wire mesh was cut on these grilles to allow more light to shine through. Wire corrugated repair segments were formed in the press, welded in place, sent off for galvanising and back on the car!
