Precious Plastic Melbourne

Precious Plastic Melbourne Hello 👋 we're Precious Plastic Melbourne - Australia's verified PP workspace! Hi, we're Piers and Kayla Mossuto, the founders of Precious Plastic Melbourne!

We equip schools and communities with Aussie-made recycling machines and educational programs to unlock resource potential and empower the next generation of changemakers. In 2018, we were looking for a responsible manufacturing solution when we were introduced to the Precious Plastic concept, and within a few short months, Precious Plastic Melbourne was born! In addition to creating disruptive de

sign to positively impact the planet, our core focus areas include:
• Helping local organisations produce functional products from recycled plastic (rather than virgin)
• Recycling traditionally 'hard to recycle' plastics
• Utilising 100% recycled materials (no added virgin materials or binding agents), and
• Providing accessible, local manufacturing options - here's to Aussie made! Within the first 6 months of announcing our initiative, we collected over 300,000 plastic bottle caps from our local community! Nowadays, we're a one-stop-shop for closed loop systems and design in Australia. We work with like-minded individuals and organisations, assisting community recyclers to set up their own plastic recycling workspaces. We believe our relationship with plastic needs rethinking - plastics are versatile materials, however the way we use them is incredibly wasteful. We're empowering organisations and communities to rethink the way we design, use, and reuse plastics, creating a circular economy for this ubiquitous commodity. By working with us, you're supporting our mission to create a circular, waste-free future, turn trash into useful products, and grow the micro-recycling community in Australia.

Next stop 📍 Sydney ICC for 2026!

PPM is officially on the exhibitor floor this June 3 & 4. If you’re navigating the 320+ stands this week, make sure to add Booth 846 to your route.

We’ll be talking hardware, material science, and how to use real-world STEM to drive student-led design and sustainability projects.

Entry to the exhibition is FREE for education professionals - come get on the tools with us! 🤓

Did you know your soda machine bottles have an expiration date? 🤯

Once these bottles reach their limit, they can no longer safely handle the pressure of carbonation. And if your expired bottle is marked with a #7 (Other), it isn't accepted in your kerbside bin - and without specialised recycling, is destined for landfill.

Rather than letting these high-quality vessels go to waste, we’re putting their engineering back to work. At PPM, we're repurposing expired #7 bottles as transport and pouring vessels for plastic flake during our mobile recycling workshops. It’s a simple way for us to operate more responsibly by utilising the resources that already exists.

Can you help? If you have an expired bottle:
1️⃣ Check the code - we accept #7 SodaStream/machine bottles
2️⃣ Prep - bottles must be perfectly clean and completely dry
3️⃣ Book - schedule a drop-off time via the link below
4️⃣ Drop-off - deliver your bottles at your booked time to our Mitcham HQ

A quick heads up! We have a fixed capacity for these vessels and are committed to ensuring we don’t accept more than we can effectively utilise. We'll update this post and close the calendar as soon as we’ve reached our limit.

Soda bottle drop-offs are by appointment only. Please pre-book your time slot here: 👉 https://calendar.app.google/uNuBVSr7xBgxve5A9

Let’s be honest - nobody needs another eco-trinket sitting on a shelf. If you're going to go through the effort of repurposing plastic waste, you may as well make something people can actually use. This is why our friendly little Pocket Comb is a bit of a PPM staple. It's teeny weeny - just 7g of plastic (this means it’s made using our smallest machine, the Benchtop Extruder) and, it’s a proper, functional tool. It’s also often the first time kids realise they aren't just doing a school project - they’re actually manufacturing.

If you're curious about how the Pocket Comb mould fits into your next STEM session or recycling workspace, all the technical bits + pricing are over on our site 🤓

Here until 3:30pm! 👋

Today, the PPM team are churning recycled products at the Learning For Sustainability Conference (Hawthorn Arts Centre).

The LFSC offers professional development and networking opportunities for early years, school and community members interested in living and acting more sustainably - join workshops and browse the exhibitors to hear from education for sustainability providers (such as yours truly 😌)!

Our 2026 calendar is moving fast, but we’ve still got a few final workshop slots available for schools ready to put material science into motion 👩‍🔬

Whether we’re bringing our Aussie-made machinery to your campus for an immersive incursion, or you’re joining us at PPM HQ for an excursion, we provide the hands-on experience that bridges the gap between classroom theory and real-world environmental action.

👉 Term 1 student & teacher availability:
We are down to our *final dates* for PPM's high-energy STEM workshops. We are also taking bookings for Teacher PD sessions, designed to help you level up your department’s circular economy curriculum and bring fresh, tactile science into the classroom.

👉 Corporate activations & team impact:
Outside of our education calendar, we continue to host corporate team impact days - these are designed for teams looking to step out of the office and into the Lab to spark some outside-the-box thinking. It’s an immersive way to hit your ESG goals while proving that sustainability is a creative design challenge, not just a box-ticking exercise.

Don’t miss the bus on Term 1. Touch base today to snap up a remaining date + give your crew a hands-on experience that sticks! 📬 info(at)plastic.org.au

There’s a massive "aha!" moment when students see a handful of waste turn into something they *actually* want to keep.

Compatible with our Benchtop Extruder, the Mini Pot Plant Mould is the perfect vehicle for student-led projects - students can manufacture their own marbled succulent pots to take home (a tangible reminder of the circular economy that lives on a kiddo's desk or windowsill!) or produce a boutique run for school fundraising that people will actually want to buy.

It’s the ideal way for STEM and TAS departments to bridge the gap between material science and real-world entrepreneurship.

WA Schools 📣 It's time to turn good intentions into tangible action!

The 2026 WasteSorted Schools are officially open! With funding of up to $5,500 available, there has never been a better time to move your campus from simply sorting waste to actively processing it.

These grants are designed to equip schools with the practical tools needed to turn sustainability goals into real-world outcomes. At PPM, we engineer our hardware to meet these exact goals. Here are 3 pathways to consider when planning your school’s recycling infrastructure:

1️⃣ The Processor (Benchtop Shredder): Recover school waste and divert it from landfill. This pathway focuses on the first stage of the circular economy - transforming school-sourced plastic into high-quality flake, enabling schools to turn their waste streams into valuable resources for student projects or community partners.

2️⃣ The Creator (Benchtop Extruder): Educate and engage students in waste avoidance and recovery. By partnering with a local community group or nearby school for a source of shredded flake, the Extruder becomes the ultimate tool for "real-world action." It allows students to manufacture products from recycled materials, turning sustainability concepts into tangible, hands-on learning within the STEM curriculum.

3️⃣ The Micro-Recycling Hub (Education Kit): This "waste-to-product" solution is a comprehensive infrastructure project that moves beyond the bin, allowing your school to close the loop on hard-to-recycle plastics right on campus. Because the full kit exceeds the grant limit, this pathway requires a school co-contribution. Proposing your own financial support is often considered favorably by assessors, as it demonstrates value for money and a long-term commitment to the project's success - this investment turns a waste stream into a hands-on manufacturing lab for the entire school community.

🥇 Round 1 opens - Tues 27 Jan 2026
