What disaster recovery efforts remind us this ANZAC Day ❤️

Earlier this year, in the aftermath of the Longwood bushfires, we saw firsthand the role veterans continue to play when communities need it most.

Through Operation Veteran Assist, recovery efforts were already underway. Clearing access, repairing fencing and helping families take those first steps forward. Practical work, done with care, experience and a strong sense of purpose.

What felt like a simple contribution of a couple of trailers and some tools was met with genuine gratitude from the community. But the truth is, it left a bigger impression on us.

The uniforms might not be there, but the teamwork, the banter and that deep sense of service are still just as strong.

As ANZAC Day approaches, it’s a reminder that service doesn’t stop when the uniform comes off. It shows up in moments like these, in the way people step forward and support others when it matters most.

That belief sits at the heart of why we do what we do. Through our veteran engagement program, Resolve, we’re incredibly proud to stand alongside veterans, supporting their impact in communities and creating pathways beyond service.

While Melbourne slept, we delivered one of Australia's biggest crane lifts. 🏗️

One weekend. 100 metres long. 16 metres wide. 1,000+ tonnes in place.

The Bulleen team on the Eastern Freeway Upgrades: Burke to Tram Alliance transformed one of Melbourne's busiest corridors into a high-capacity construction platform over a single weekend closure.

A 35,000-tonne rock hardstand supported the operation, with 3,500 tonnes placed in the first 10 hours. In the lead-up, a further 32,000 tonnes was installed, creating the foundation for dual 800-tonne crawler cranes.

Rain hit, but the team kept moving. Adapting in real time, crews progressed piling, drainage, profiling, asphalting and ITS works across multiple fronts.

This milestone sets the benchmark for what's possible, delivering complex infrastructure at scale while maximising each closure and minimising disruption for the community.

When disaster strikes, veterans step up. Support matters.

Following the Longwood bushfires, Symal was proud to support Operation Veteran Assist by donating two trailers of equipment to support on-the-ground recovery efforts.

The chainsaws were put straight to work clearing trees, while the tools will assist with practical tasks like fixing fences and helping keep livestock safe. These are the kinds of actions that make a real difference for families getting back on their feet after disaster.

Veteran-led recovery is powerful. It’s experienced, community-driven and focused on what’s needed. Always ready to mobilise for a mission, this work also provides ex-servicemen with purpose and camaraderie, as was clear during our visit to the Murrindindi Shire on Taungurung Country.

We’re proud to stand alongside those who continue to serve long after the uniform comes off, supporting communities through recovery.

A big shout out to the team from Hawthorn RSL Sub Branch, including President Drew Maddison and Vice President Eamon Hale, and everyone involved in Operation Veteran Assist. Truly humbling work.

On a challenging, high-visibility site, we delivered a 63-pile retaining wall with integrated stormwater solutions, all completed with “absolute success”.

Today marks a monumental moment for Symal, as we officially debut on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX), trading as SYL.​

From humble beginnings, our Founder and Group Managing Director, Joe Bartolo, has turned a small landscaping business into one of Australia’s largest self-performing construction groups. This milestone is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion of our incredible team.​
