ather & son and FotoFinder’s managing directors (in those times the company was still called TeachScreen Software GmbH), saw potential opportunities in digitizing video data and creating digital image databases. The FotoFinder imaging database was born. At first it came to be used by industrial companies. The next step into the medical field started only a few years later, when Rolf Mayer met an influential dermatology professor. It was obvious that an imaging system to monitor early detection of skin changes, would highly improve diagnostics: The FotoFinder imaging database was quickly extended by a video camera, a special optic for microscopic imaging, and finally a computer system. The FotoFinder dermoscope was born.
