Going to have a crack at getting this engineered for daily duties and first known hurdle is going to be door glass, so instead of getting custom glass done I’m trialling this idea.

Still utilises the factory door glass and have used the runner from my spare 1/4 windows and reversed them to make another guide.

Hopefully I can blend the runner/divider into the window using a dark tint and shouldn’t be overly noticeable.

Don’t think many people will be looking at the windows, likely wondering why it looks “different” 😅

Opinions?

After a little break I’m back into it.

Started sizing up the front struts and making some plates to mount the struts into.
Still deciding if I’ll incorporate them into the wheel well structure and fix them to the chassis with tubing etc

Looking like I’ll need different offset wheels as the fronts seem to be sticking out further than the rears…..or it’s just playing tricks because of how the front end tapers in, time will tell.

Kframe mounts all welded in and painted, still need to add in one more mount either side but for the time being this will work while I get upper control arm mounts figured out.
Also decided to throw the new motor in while I was at it, from factory the Barra must be offset in the engine bay as now it sits off to the passenger side which makes my cowl cut out look stupid 🤦🏻‍♂️😅
Now I’m going to cut it out and shift it over.

Motor now sits lower in the engine bay but slightly forward more but not a lot.

Stay tuned!

Gussets are mostly welded in, ready to remove the K-Frame and clean all the paint off the brackets and finish welding them up.

Plus a good time to give the Kframe a good clean and a fresh coat of paint.

Need to weld up the brackets underneath the chassis rail and plug weld the holes in the plates.

Then I’ll fit the motor and see how it fits and address any issues as I have a feeling this will partially set the motor back further.

Brackets/gussets made to support the Kframe mounts.

They will box in the mounts and also wrap under the chassis rails to tie it all together.

Will get them tacked in, remove the kframe, clean everything up and weld it all out.

Sometimes things just work out…150x100x8mm brackets just happen to be drilled perfectly for the rear mounting holes and stud on the BA Kframe, saved ALOT of time marking and drilling them.

So I’ve got it all centred and tacked in, to make sure it’s all aligned.
So far so good.

Wheels are where they should be, will need shorter struts or just adapt coilovers to suit.

Front mount will need to be made up as the full bracket interferes with the body mount.

Pretty much ready to fully weld it out and add some gussets etc to strengthen it all up.

Definitely be done by the end of the week and onto control arm mounts next 👌👌

Mocked up the IFS, not going to be an overly hard task to get this installed, it’s about 85mm wider then the frame either side but with the help of some beefy 150x200x8mm angle brackets it’s going to be straightforward.
I’ll be able to utilise the steering box/idler arm mounting holes(crush tubes already installed) to mount the front cross member on the k-frame to the chassis.

Rear mounting holes will work the same way but will need to add in crush tubes or just weld the brackets directly to the frame with a few plug welds….who knows but it’ll end up being complete overkill like the IRS set up…just in case.

Will need to add in some wider flares or may stretch the front guards out to cover the 2-3” of wheel poke 😅

Not sure how the steering column set up will work as it’s VERY close to the fire wall.

Stay tuned!

Nothing new to report, just some pictures after cleaning up the shed tonight 😍😍😍

Can’t wait to have this thing all back together and in one colour….what colour…I have no idea! Can’t commit to one until it’s ready.

One side cut off, one to go then a good clean up before making a jig to install the Ford IFS 👌👌
