Sloan Restoration specialises in the restoration of antique and modern, hard and soft paste porcelain, china and pottery items. Established in 2013 and based in Mango Hill, Brisbane Australia I take pride in the quality and integrity of exceptional work and outstanding customer service. I specialise in using up to date materials and equipment, with an emphasis on preserving as much of the original

item as possible. My restoration philosophy includes the use of compatible and reversible materials ensuring no further deterioration or decline as a result of restoration. I offer an “invisible” restoration option, as well as replacement of missing parts and correction of older, less considerate restorations in any shape, colour or design. This results in an aesthetically pleasing, respectful restoration. All items are accessed on an individual basis and a full quote with pricing and options is provided. No job is considered too big or too small. I accept commissions from local and international clients. Please contact me to discuss all your options.

Last week I had the pleasure of restoring a very special table base. The dragon table was a gift that was damaged during a recent move to a new house. Unfortunately the dragon broke at the neck and lost its jaw with a few cracks and chips at the base. It’s back to it’s magnificent self! Huzzah!

Wondering how to clean your intricate ceramic flower displays? Use a little soapy water and brush them with an old toothbrush. Never put them in the dishwasher! If it's an old family piece be sure to check for any old restorations. Most glues are not tolerant of heat or water and you may end up with old repairs coming apart.

Poor Flood was delivered with a broken paw. He is called flood because he was bought with the insurance payments from a "flood". We are so pleased he is well and back on his feet.

This lovely lamp came into our studio a few weeks ago. We have one of our own in a similar design. What is more interesting than the lamp,is in fact the lampshade. If you have the original lampshade in the original fabric it is worth more than the lamp! So think twice about throwing out your lampshades.

Sometimes we receive pieces that are not suitable for restoration but because they are of great sentimental value, we compromise and restore as best we can.

Both these pieces belong to the same customer. They have both "sprung". This means that the piece was either manufactured under tension (Coalport vase) or stored under tension (Wedgwood plate).

It's never a good idea to use a spring bracket on a plate. "Sprung" pieces never fit back together again. If you force them together the piece breaks apart again, usually into a dozen or more pieces.

In this case we created a veneer over the broken edges and colour matched. It's not an invisible repair but both pieces will display well. It's rare to see a "sprung" piece but in QLD we see them often in winter as a result of sudden temperature change.
