Where Empathy Meets Mobility
Our Story
Established in 2008, Mobility Rentals and Sales has recently undergone a transformation with new ownership under the dedicated leadership of Sam and Kristian. Our mission is deeply rooted in the experiences of our owners, who are committed to empowering our customers by providing an industry-leading customer experience with a relentless focus on customer cent

ricity. At the heart of our mission is genuine care for our customers and a profound understanding of their unique circumstances. We firmly believe that every individual deserves respect, and we uphold this principle by being transparent and providing honest, accurate information at all times. Kristian’s personal journey has played a pivotal role in influencing our ethos. Following the passing of their mother, Linda, in January 2020 after a courageous 16-year battle with breast cancer, Kristian took on the responsibilities of as nominee and caregiver for his three siblings with Cerebral Palsy: Kaleigh, Jordan, and Matisse. For over three decades, Kristian witnessed the immense challenges his mother faced while advocating for his siblings. This profound experience inspired Kristian and Sam to purchase Mobility Rentals & Sales, driven by their shared commitment to making a difference in the wider community as they know first-hand the impact that mobility and disability equipment can have on a person’s life, and how this can improve not only their independence, but also their outlook. Moreover, our entire team shares a personal connection to someone with a disability, mirroring the owners’ dedication. Kristian’s sister, Leanne, has also joined the team and brings with her a mix of invaluable perspective and firsthand experiences. As the eldest sibling and the mother of a disabled daughter, Gabby, who also has Cerebral Palsy, Leanne has witnessed and experienced firsthand the resilience and determination it takes to provide the care and support needed to thrive. Together, Leanne and Kristian have been unwavering pillars of support for their family, having also cared for their 88-year-old father, who relied on mobility and aged care solutions to maintain his independence and dignity as he navigates the challenges that come with aging. These unique perspectives shape our business, making Mobility Rentals and Sales a company owned and operated by individuals with direct personal connections to the disability and aged communities, as well as those with loved ones in need of specialised care. Further reinforcing our commitment to serving not only individuals with disabilities or mobility needs but also their families who play an essential but often overlooked role in their journey. Do you wait until your mobility scooter or power wheelchair battery is nearly empty before charging it?

Regularly running a lithium-ion battery flat may shorten its useful life. Shorter, regular charging and partial discharge are generally better for the battery.

A few helpful habits:
✔️ Charge after you finish using the equipment for the day
✔️ If it is used once a week or less, charge it at least weekly
✔️ Use only the charger supplied with the equipment
✔️ Connect the charger to the equipment first, then directly to the wall outlet
✔️ Let the battery charge until the charger indicates it is full
✔️ Never store the equipment with a completely flat battery
✔️ Avoid extension cords, extreme temperatures and damp charging areas

Before charging, turn the equipment off and ensure it is in drive mode.
Never use or charge a battery if it is damaged, swollen, leaking, unusually hot or producing an unusual smell or sound.

Charging instructions can vary between products, so always follow the owner’s manual for your particular scooter, power wheelchair and battery.

If your equipment is no longer travelling as far as it once did, contact Mobility Rentals & Sales on 1300 460 070 to discuss battery testing or servicing.

Planning a trip? A little preparation can make travelling with mobility equipment much easier.

Before you leave, consider where support may be needed during the journey and at your destination. This might include:
✔️ Getting around airports and unfamiliar places
✔️ Managing transfers
✔️ Showering and bathroom access
✔️ Transporting and storing equipment
✔️ Charging powered equipment

Portable options such as folding mobility scooters, compact hoists and travel-friendly shower or commode chairs may help make time away safer and more comfortable.

If you are flying, contact the airline early to confirm its requirements for mobility equipment and batteries. It is also a good idea to speak directly with your accommodation to check that its accessible facilities will meet your needs.

Travel-friendly mobility equipment may include:
• A lightweight folding mobility scooter for getting around at your destination
• A compact, foldable hoist to support transfers
• A portable shower and commode chair for safer bathroom access

Look for equipment that is lightweight, compact and easy to assemble or store.

Always confirm airline requirements before travelling with powered equipment or batteries.

If you would like help comparing travel-friendly equipment, call our team on 1300 460 070.

Mobility Rentals & Sales has a very personal story behind it.

Owners Sam and Kristian have spent many years helping to care for Kristian’s siblings, who live with cerebral palsy, and supporting their family as their care needs changed.

They know firsthand how confusing and overwhelming it can be to navigate mobility equipment, providers and support systems especially during a hospital discharge, recovery from an injury, a new diagnosis or a change in someone’s needs at home.

That lived experience has shaped the way we support our customers.

We listen. We remain flexible. We respond as quickly as we can. Most importantly, we recognise that every person and every family is different.

Behind each enquiry is someone trying to make everyday life safer, easier and more comfortable.

That is why, for us, mobility equipment will always be about more than a product. It is about helping people maintain their independence, confidence and dignity when it matters most.

Using a rollator safely starts with the right setup.

The handles should align with the crease of the user’s wrist when they are standing with their arms relaxed. The rollator should then be kept close to the body while walking and not pushed too far ahead.

A few other safety reminders:
• Lock the brakes before sitting or standing.
• Never pull on the rollator to help you stand, as it may tip.
• Walk at a comfortable pace and take care on wet or uneven surfaces.
• Never use a rollator on stairs or to transport someone while they are seated.
• Check the brakes and wheels regularly and stop using the rollator if it appears damaged.

If you are unsure whether a rollator is correctly adjusted or suitable for your needs, speak with your healthcare professional.

Recovering from surgery can take time and even simple everyday activities such as getting out of bed, showering, using the bathroom or moving around the home may feel more challenging than expected.

Having the right support in place can make the transition home feel safer and less overwhelming.

Before leaving hospital, speak with your healthcare team about the equipment that may support your recovery. Depending on your individual needs, this could include:
✔️ A wheelchair or walking aid
✔️ A shower chair or over-toilet aid
✔️ A lift recline chair
✔️ A home hospital bed

If the equipment is only required while you recover, hiring may be a practical and affordable alternative to purchasing.

Where possible, arrange everything before returning home. Having equipment delivered and set up in advance allows time to become familiar with how it works and can help make discharge day a little less stressful for everyone involved.

Not every power wheelchair comes ready-made for the person who will use it.

A prescription power wheelchair can be configured around an individual’s mobility, posture, comfort, daily activities and the environments they need to access.

Finding the right option involves much more than choosing a chair from a catalogue.

It may require assessment, trials and collaboration between the customer, their family, their occupational therapist or health professional and the equipment supplier.

At Mobility Rentals & Sales, our team can prepare suitable wheelchairs for trial, explain the available features and configuration options, and support the process alongside the treating health professional.

Clinical assessment and prescription remain the responsibility of the treating health professional.

To discuss the available options and arrange a product trial, contact our team on 1300 460 070.

Finding somewhere accessible should be easier than it often is.

Whether you are planning a holiday, meeting friends for coffee or looking for an accessible bathroom, it can be frustrating when the information online is missing, unclear or out of date.

One free resource worth knowing about is the Accessible Australia app, created by Spinal Life Australia.

The app includes hotels, restaurants, cafés, shopping centres, public bathrooms, parks, beaches and more. You can search for places that may suit your access needs, read reviews from people with first-hand experience and share your own review to help others.

Where information is listed as “self-reported”, it is still worth contacting the venue directly to confirm that it meets your individual requirements.

Explore the app at accessibleaustralia.com.au. Helpful “how-to” videos are also available through Spinal Life Australia.
