🚧 Progress Update | Piggott Street, Nambucca Heads 🚧

Works are continuing at Piggott Street in Nambucca Heads, where our team is currently remediating a landslip through the extension of an existing gabion basket retaining wall.

This project has required strong communication and collaboration with nearby residents due to the close proximity of the works to private property — including construction activities partially within a resident’s backyard.

Like much of the region recently, wet weather has presented a few challenges and caused some delays, but the team continues to make solid progress on site.

Tomorrow marks an exciting milestone with the installation of the first gabion basket 👏

Another great example of practical infrastructure solutions helping protect local roads, properties and communities.

On the weekend, our team had the privilege of joining the celebrations at the Our Kids_lismore Winter Ball 🤍

BASEC Engineering is incredibly proud to support the incredible work that Our Kids_lismore does across the Northern Rivers and beyond as a Platinum Sponsor.

The evening was a powerful reminder of what can happen when communities and businesses come together to support local families and children when they need it most.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in delivering such a special night and continuing to make a real difference in the lives of so many.

We’re proud to stand alongside organisations creating meaningful impact in our communities.

Big day on site at the Maclean Civic Centre 👷‍♀️🚧

Drone footage from the final Ground Floor slab pour is in — and it’s a good one.

This was a solid push from the team:

▪️ 278m³ of concrete poured
▪️ 20 concreters on site placing
▪️ 2 concrete pumps running flat out
▪️ Continuous supply from 0600 – 1300
▪️ Trucks brought in from surrounding plants to maintain supply

Well-coordinated, well-executed, and a great result on site.

Project: Maclean Civic Centre
Client: Clarence Valley Council
BASEC Engineering Team: Dale Lindley, Alex Smith, Adri Peinnar
Architectural:
Construction:
Photo & Drone: Corey Reeman

This is what it looks like when planning, teamwork, and delivery all line up.

Keen to hear what you think of the footage 👇

At BASEC Engineering, we don’t just build infrastructure — we manage its entire lifecycle, from construction through to deconstruction.

The 1954 timber Bluff Bridge stood the test of time, serving its community for decades and carrying generations across the Orara River.

So when it came time for its replacement, it wasn’t about tearing it down — it was about doing it right.

Piece by piece, the bridge was meticulously deconstructed. Beams, corbels, decking, running boards, piers and cross braces were carefully removed, inspected, and recycled wherever possible.

A respectful end to a structure that had done its job — and done it well.

Now, the third-generation crossing (1903, 1954, 2026) carries that legacy forward — stronger, higher and built for the future.

Better management. Better outcomes. 👷‍♀️

On 29 April 2026, the new Bluff Bridge officially opened to two-way traffic — a huge milestone for the region.

Rising more than 17 metres above Orara Way, the new structure replaces the old low-level 1954 timber bridge (and the original early 1900s crossing before that). This upgrade isn’t just about a new bridge — it’s about keeping communities connected.

The Bluff Bridge is a critical link between Glenreagh, Nana Glen and Grafton, supporting both local communities and industry. With improved flood immunity and a far more durable design, this bridge means people and freight can keep moving — even during major weather events.

BASEC Engineering was proud to deliver full project management for this project on behalf of Clarence Valley Council — from early development right through to construction and handover, led by our very own Dean Gregory CPEng NER RPEQ and supported by Gordon Cupitt.

A big congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this project to life:
