When did we decide outdoor furniture, screens, gates and garden features were meant to last… what? 3–5 years?

Rust flakes. Welds cracking. Powder coat bubbling.
And the answer is always: “Yeah, that’s pretty normal.”

Is it though?

We still have fences and railings around Australia that are 40, 50, 70 years old and even older. Solid. Still standing. Still doing their job.

So why are we replacing things more often than our phones?

Is it cost? Speed? Style changes? Or did we just collectively lower the bar?
