👉Try not to Position your transducer upstream in-line of any through hull fittings.
As you can see, Even 5 or 10mm protrusions create turbulence which will affect your transduce reading at speed.
If you have no side position to go ,then drop the transducer deeper below the turbulent layer.

✅Fix Sonar Loss at Speed in One Hour

⸻
If your fish finder loses bottom or the screen messes up at speed, most of the time this is a transducer positioning issue — not:
• sounder settings
• the transducer itself
• or the brand you’re running

The real limitation is usually the factory transom mount you get with the gear.

Factory transom mounts give you very little adjustment, which is why transom mounting can get a bad wrap — You simply can’t test enough positions to find clean water.

✅How to fix it in one hour.

• Give yourself and dedicate a testing only session to dial your transducer in
❌( no fishing gear or you’ll get distracted )
• Install -Ti adjustable transducer mount to suit your particular transducer and
- Ti Jackplate (quick height adjustment plate)
(Installation support can be provided)

The process is simple:
•Take the boat out on a reasonable weather day and check the sonar image at 10-20knots ( hull and boat design will determine expected speed results)
• If it’s clean — you’re done
• If not, return to the ramp, note current position of transducer
• Use a 7/16” spanner on the Ti Jackplate sliding bolts to make a 1 minute height adjustment
• Head back out and retest

Repeat as needed. Most setups should be dialled in within 1–4 adjustments.

By Dedicating 1 testing session , most fishermen will find clean water and a solid sonar image in an hour.

Ever wondered why your sounder looks great at rest… then turns to mush once you get moving? 🤔

👉 And more importantly — where should the transducer actually sit to fix it?

Andy reached out to us in late November after battling poor sounder performance for over two years.

He writes-

“Hi Steve,
We’re struggling with a poor sounder picture on a two-year-old DFF3D / TM54 setup.
White Pointer Boat- 7.5m, built in NZ.

At rest it’s okay… but once we go over 10 knots, the picture turns to rubbish.
We assumed it was settings and adjustments.”

Sound familiar?

The problem wasn’t the transducer.

After some back-and-forth, it became clear Andy wasn’t doing anything wrong.

He knows his gear.
He understands sounder setup.
He tried all positions available.

👉 The issue turned out to be something most people never suspect: the factory-supplied mounting bracket.

It simply didn’t allow the positioning needed for his boat hull type.

✅The change that made the difference

Andy installed our ABYSS Mount and Jackplate set— and sent through before-and-after screenshots (shown above).

Here’s how he described the results:

“First image is the original DFF3D picture at 25 knots.TM54 on the standard Airmar bracket.
Reducing gain didn’t help.

Second image is using the ABYSS bracket — running 22 knots as an example.

Manual Gain, Auto Fishing, Auto Cruising…
The picture stays clean in all modes.

The TM54 is tucked in close to the transom using the slot adjustment.
The left edge of the transducer now sits about 15mm below the hull.
It was only around 5mm originally.”

✅And the result?

“I’ve only been out once briefly…
but we had an excellent result straight away.”

👉Why this matters (and why it’s not your fault)

Most boat fishermen put up with poor sounder images for years — not realising the limitation isn’t the transducer, electronics or settings.

👉 It’s the mount!!

Factory brackets are extremely limited in their design.

Without more adjustment, you never get the chance to find that sweet spot where your sounder reads deep into clean water.
