The first of the "Drive Away, You Finish" builds leaving the workshop in the hands of it's new owner. For all of you that enquired about this car, clearly, you can't have this one, but you can go on the waiting list for one of the next builds by getting in touch through the website www.australianspeedsters.com.au These are mechanically completed, fully engineered and registered in Victoria, with just paint and trim left for the customer to finish off the way they want it. It's a project, but much smaller than a full build. Please don't ask "how much" in the comments..... If you are interested, please make a genuine enquiry.

I’m starting a new thing. A drive away car that you finish off. The car will be fully engineered and registered as a rebody 356, in primer and with a basic minimum interior for registration. You drive it home and finish it how you like. This one will be registered in February (it’s finished but I’m taking a break over Christmas). I will take a deposit if someone wants to reserve it. This one has a refreshed 1648, new barrels and pistons, bearings, reseated valves etc, new synchro’s and all new brakes etc. it is, of course a second hand car (the donor is a 1970 beetle). Let me know if you are interested and we can arrange a look. Please reach out through the website for further information australianspeedsters.com.au

Hi everyone, I thought I’d include a little “how to” for anyone interested. This series of pictures shows how I simply remove the ignition switch from a late model column. I like the late column because it comes with the donor car, has self cancelling indicators and can dip the headlights. I just don’t like the ignition switch…. So, here you will see my process.

Hacksaw the switch off, clean up with a flappy grinding disc, make a cardboard template, then fabricate a filler with aluminium (needs a little shaping but easy enough for anyone to do). I then use JB weld to attach the aluminium piece and a tiny bit of filler to finish. JB weld is more than adequate for this purpose and saves a lot of extra work compared to welding. There is no stress on this part. I choose to finish in flat black to keep it discrete as it’s not intended to be a feature….. let me know if you found this useful.

New stock! This is how they look in a container and then tucked into the factory…. A couple of these are spoken for, but still a few available. Over the years we have refined our processes every shipment and I must say, this lot are such great quality! We also have hard tops for the speedster, but before you ask, they are only for customers that are buying or have bought a car from us. Please send enquiries through www.australianspeedsters.com.au rather than asking “how much” in the comments…..

This Speedster is back on the market!! Many of you will recognise this car that I built in 2020 and sold about a year later. The new owner is now looking to sell it, so I wanted to give followers of this page a heads up. I get lots of enquiry about finished cars, so if you are after one this is about as good as you will get. If you are interested send me a PM or an enquiry through the website www.australianspeedsters.com.au I can give you some information and the details of the seller.
