📑 OUR ABSTRACT:

Underbridge Pipe Supports – A Guide and Case Studies

There are only two ways to transport vital services such as water, power, and communications across bridges: they can be hung or suspended under a bridge or structure, or they can be fixed and supported on top of a bridge. Both methods have their respective applications.

This paper focuses on the application of hanging pipeline infrastructure. It examines the technical aspects, design, installation, and maintenance of under-bridge pipe support systems. The benefits of hanging supports, such as space minimization and adaptability to various bridge types and environments, are highlighted along with project and installation time savings, which may not be immediately apparent.

A detailed case study of the Sunbury Road Upgrade, which involved a new bridge over Jacksons Creek, is used to illustrate the practical application and challenges addressed using hanging pipe supports. Additionally, we will provide an overview of the pipe support system on the new Dubbo Bridge project, which is currently under construction.

This comprehensive paper will provide engineers, planners, and contractors with practical insights and proven strategies to enhance the functionality and longevity of hanging pipeline infrastructure on bridges. The findings and strategies discussed will be presented at the upcoming Small Bridges Conference by Roger Shemilt and Riley Williams.
