They both capture 3D point clouds, but they work very differently on site.

A terrestrial scanner (TLS) delivers sub-millimetre precision from fixed tripod positions. A handheld scanner like the FJD Trion P2 captures continuously as you walk, covering large areas quickly with centimetre accuracy.

The choice depends on your project: precision-critical work calls for TLS. Broad coverage and speed call for handheld LiDAR. And on large projects, using both together is often the most efficient approach.

Both deliver centimetre-level accuracy, but they work very differently on site. RTK corrects in real time (needs a live data link). PPK corrects after the fact (no connection needed in the field).
