Following the recent salvage works completed in the aftermath of Cyclone Koji, our team has seen firsthand the hidden dangers associated with storm-damaged and condemned vessels.
While a vessel may appear stable from the outside, cyclone-impacted boats often suffer from:
- Severe structural weakening
- Hidden hull fractures and delamination
- Compromised buoyancy
- Unstable decks and internal supports
- Entrapped fuel, oils, and hazardous materials
Once a vessel has been condemned or declared a total loss, it should be treated as structurally unpredictable and potentially hazardous.
We remind vessel owners and members of the public: Do not board a condemned or storm damaged vessel.
Even minor movement, shifting weight, or tidal change can result in sudden structural failure. What appears recoverable can quickly become a serious safety incident.
Salvage operations require controlled methodologies, environmental safeguards, and experienced personnel to manage risks safely and prevent further harm to people and the marine environment.
If your vessel has been impacted by severe weather, seek professional advice before attempting inspection or recovery.
Stay safe on the water.
