GVM Upgrade & Testing — Toyota LandCruiser 79 Series

This LandCruiser 79 Series recently underwent a comprehensive upgrade including:

🔹 3" suspension lift
🔹 Wheel & tyre install
🔹 Rear axle track correction
🔹 Child restraint installation
🔹 GVM increase from 3300kg → 3780kg

Because the vehicle was lifted more than 50 mm, it underwent full VSB14 LT2 testing — including lane-change manoeuvre, brake, and handling assessments — completed under controlled conditions at Symmons Plains Raceway.

Visit our website to complete our easy online form to lodge your vehicle modification query and we'll be in touch! https://www.burnettconsulting.com.au/modification-quote

🔼 How high can I lift my vehicle? 🔼

If you’re planning a lift, it’s important to know the rules. According to VSB14 Section LS guidelines:

Maximum total lift for a light vehicle: 150mm
Suspension lift: up to 75mm (3")
Body lift: up to 50mm (2")
Larger tyres: up to 50mm (2")
Total combined lift must not exceed 150mm to stay road legal and safe.

At Burnett Consulting, we make sure your modifications meet compliance standards while keeping your vehicle performing at its best.

3 Tips for Understanding Vehicle Weight

Ratings Understanding your vehicle’s weight ratings is essential for safety, compliance, and protecting your vehicle.

Here are three key areas to keep in mind:

1. Tow Capacity vs GCM
Tow capacity is the maximum weight your vehicle can legally tow. GCM (Gross Combination Mass) is the total allowable weight of your fully loaded vehicle plus the trailer. Staying within these limits ensures safe handling and avoids penalties under Tasmanian transport laws.

2. Axle Ratings and GVM
Each axle has a weight limit known as its axle rating, while GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) is the total allowed weight of the vehicle when loaded. Exceeding either can compromise braking, suspension, and handling, and is a legal compliance issue.

3. Load Levelling
Load-levelling systems help distribute weight more evenly, but they’re not a substitute for the right springs. Don’t rely on pumping 90 psi into your airbags to level your rig — fit the correct base components first, then use load-levelling to fine-tune.

Conclusion
Knowing and respecting your vehicle’s weight ratings ensures safety, compliance with Tasmanian regulations, and a better driving experience, whether loaded or unloaded.

Compliance Checkpoint: Engine Installations & Emission Standards

Thinking about swapping out your engine? Here are a couple of key points to keep you on track:
✅ Match the engine year to your vehicle (or newer) – this ensures emissions meet the same or higher standards.
✅ Keep it standard – once modifications start, you’ll need to prove the engine still complies with emissions requirements.

Planning an engine upgrade? Chat with us first – we’ll guide you through the compliance process so it’s smooth sailing from start to finish.
