Tape's the one thing that shouldn't be missing from your kit - DIY or trade 🫡

Envo Tape gives razor-sharp lines, no bleed, and clean release with no residue - engineered for actual Australian conditions, not just indoor use. Rated 30+ days UV resistant and waterproof, so it holds up even if the job runs longer than planned.

One thing worth knowing: pull the tape off while the paint's still tacky, not once it's fully dried. Paint that dries over the tape edge tears the line when you remove it - the exact opposite of the clean finish you just spent hours taping up for.

Running a bigger job? Kraft paper's the better call over plastic film in high-heat spray work - it won't melt under spray heat and actually absorbs paint better, where plastic just beads it.

Graco calls the pump "the heart of an airless sprayer" - and it's not just a figure of speech. It's the part doing the actual work - pulling paint from the source, then pushing it out under pressure.

It's also the part most people never think about - until it fails mid-job.

Here's how it breaks down across the range:

Ultra 390, 395, 450 run the Endurance Vortex pump - solid, reliable, built for occasional through to a few days a week.

Ultra XT (490 to 795) steps up further - Standard Series ships the Endurance Chromex hardened-steel pump rod, built for moderate daily runs.

ProContractor Series swaps in the MaxLife Vortex pump system - rated at 6x the packing life of a standard piston pump, with pre-oiled cartridges that swap in the field, no service centre required.

We don't talk about pressure enough. Here's why it actually matters. 🤝

Airless spraying requires nothing but pressure to atomise the paint. Your finish quality is entirely dependent on your working pressure. If your pressure drops significantly every time you pull the trigger, pulses during your spray fan, or can't keep up with the thickness of your paint, you're doomed.
The colder the weather, and the longer the hose you run, the more significant your pressure drop is going to be. You want to hold and maintain the pressure you've dialled in as closely as possible. Make sure you're sticking to a sprayer that's capable of handling your paint thickness, with a high enough flow to push the paint far (and vertically, if you're roofing).
Your pressure is going to change daily. Get used to spraying to the wet film application and spray fan produced, not to the exact number. Your pressure is affected drastically by temperature, humidity, the age of your paint, diameter of your hose, tip size, filters being used - the list goes on. Don't stick to the reading on your gauge like gospel - adapt the pressure for your conditions and nail that beautiful gradient of a spray fan. If you're tailing, you're failing.
Not all airless sprayers are made equal. Once you understand the many variables of spraying, you'll understand you get what you pay for. Motor output, pump size, component materials and engineering all matter. Take the Ultra XT range - Graco removed the gearbox entirely and fitted a high torque, newly engineered motor. Designed by a multi-billion-dollar manufacturer with one goal: hold and build pressure as reliably as possible.

At the end of the day, technique only gets you so far. The right gear for the job matters just as much as knowing how to use it.
