MEET THE DONK.

This one started with a pretty simple request — build a smudge bar for a loyal demolition clients Cat traxcavator. A few conversations we both discussed 3.5m wide, 2.3m deep and around 1,100kg. Safe to say, she’s a big unit.

Built from heavy RHS & complete 450 grade wear steel where it matters, then straight out of the workshop and onto the machine to earn its keep.

We build our smudge bars around the machine and the work they’re actually going to do — not just a one-size-fits-all design.

One smudge bar. Two machines. Built to actually earn its keep. 🇦🇺
This 2100 × 1800 combo bar is set up to suit both a 4-in-1 posi bucket and a 7T excavator — giving the customer more use out of one attachment.

A smudge bar cops a hiding. Catch a rock, stump or something you didn’t see and a lightly built bar can bend, twist or become another thing you’re dragging back to the workshop. Then there’s wear — once the bottom disappears, you’re repairing or replacing it earlier than you should be.

That’s why our bars come with hardened wear strips as standard and are built in Cranbourne for daily use. More service life, less maintenance and one attachment that can work across two machines. Would you run a combo setup like this?

12–14T | 1500mm mud bucket for some love. 🔥

The original 250-grade wear strips had done around 5,000 hours and there wasn’t much left of them.

We replaced them with 450-grade wear strips and rotated the bolt-on cutting edge.

The customer caught this one at the right time. The wear strips were gone, the floor was starting to bow, but they hadn’t started wearing into the actual bucket floor yet.

That’s why wear strips matter.

They don’t just take the wear — they help protect the floor and keep it straight.

16mm hardened wear plate doesn’t like being told where to go. 🔨🔥

We use 450-grade wear strips on the underside of our manufactured & repaired buckets because constant ground contact can quickly chew through softer material.

They don’t just take the wear — they also add support to the bucket floor, helping it stay straight and resist bending under load.

They’re harder to form and fit — sometimes it takes serious heat and a 12lb sledge — but that hardness is exactly why we use them.

Protect the floor. Take the wear. Keep the bucket working.
