🏥 **CT ROOMS: When humidity becomes an equipment-critical issue**
A CT (Computed Tomography) room isn't simply another air-conditioned hospital space.
It houses high-value diagnostic equipment incorporating sensitive detectors, electronics, power systems and computing hardware — while the CT gantry itself can introduce a substantial sensible heat load into the room.
That means **temperature AND relative humidity need to be controlled.**
Manufacturer requirements vary by CT system, but typical operating specifications can sit around **30–70% RH, non-condensing**, with some systems requiring a considerably tighter range. Just as importantly, rapid changes in temperature or humidity may also be restricted.
Why does this matter?
Excessive humidity can increase the risk of condensation, corrosion and moisture-related issues around sensitive electronic equipment. Conversely, excessively dry conditions can increase electrostatic discharge risk.
And standard air conditioning doesn't always solve the problem.
We recently received an **urgent dehumidifier enquiry from a private hospital on Queensland's Sunshine Coast** after its air-conditioning and refrigeration contractor assessed the CT environment and recommended that additional dehumidification be installed immediately.
This is exactly where correct equipment selection matters.
At **Damp Solutions Australia**, we can help HVAC contractors, facility managers and healthcare engineering teams assess the application and select an appropriate humidity-control solution — from:
• Commercial portable dehumidifiers for rapid deployment, supplementary control or temporary HVAC issues
• Wall-mounted systems for dedicated room humidity control
• Ducted dehumidification for permanent integration into HVAC and controlled-air systems
• Specialist desiccant systems where lower dew points or particular environmental conditions are required
Correct selection isn't simply about choosing a unit with a large L/day rating.
We consider **room volume, existing HVAC performance, outside-air load, infiltration, internal sensible and latent loads, required RH/dew point, operating temperature, equipment manufacturer's environmental limits and the required control strategy.**
And we're not just here to supply the box.
**Damp Solutions Australia can assist with specification, installation through experienced HVAC partners, commissioning, servicing, repairs and replacement parts — Australia-wide.**
For critical environments such as **CT suites, medical imaging rooms, laboratories, archives and equipment rooms**, humidity control should be engineered around the application.
