Here’s a 10 days campervan travel itinerary for Tasmania, starting and ending in Hobart, designed to make the most of the island’s stunning natural beauty, charming towns, and unique wildlife.

Day 1: Hobart – Explore the City

• Pick up your campervan and get familiar with it.
• Visit Salamanca Place and Battery Point for history and charm.
• Drive up to kunanyi / Mount Wellington for panoramic views.
• Overnight stay at a local Hobart caravan park.

Day 2: Hobart to Port Arthur (Approx. 1.5 hrs)

• Stop at Richmond – see the oldest bridge in Australia.
• Drive down the Tasman Peninsula, visit the Tasman Arch and Devil’s Kitchen.
• Explore the hauntingly beautiful Port Arthur Historic Site.
• Stay at a campsite near Port Arthur.

Day 3: Port Arthur to Freycinet Peninsula (Approx. 3.5 hrs)

• Scenic coastal drive via Orford and Swansea.
• Stop at Spiky Bridge and Kate’s Berry Farm.
• Enter Freycinet National Park – perhaps walk to the Wineglass Bay Lookout.
• Overnight at Richardson’s Beach Campground or nearby.

Day 4: Freycinet National Park

• Hike the Hazards Circuit or enjoy a boat tour around the peninsula.
• Explore Coles Bay and Friendly Beaches.
• Spot wallabies at dusk.
• Another night in Freycinet.

Day 5: Freycinet to Bay of Fires (Approx. 2.5 hrs)

• Head north to Bicheno – see the blowhole or take a penguin tour.
• Continue to St Helens, then to Binalong Bay.
• Explore the stunning orange-lichen-covered rocks of the Bay of Fires.
• Camp at Cosy Corner North or another free campsite.

Day 6: Bay of Fires to Launceston (Approx. 3 hrs)

• Drive inland via the Midlands Highway.
• Visit the Pyengana Dairy Company and St Columba Falls on the way.
• Explore Launceston, including Cataract Gorge.
• Overnight at a caravan park in Launceston.

Day 7: Launceston to Cradle Mountain (Approx. 2.5 hrs)

• Scenic drive via Sheffield, the “Town of Murals”.
• Arrive at Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park.
• Short walks like Enchanted Walk or Dove Lake Circuit.
• Camp at Discovery Parks Cradle Mountain or Cradle Mountain Campground.

Day 8: Cradle Mountain

• Full day for longer hikes – e.g., Marion’s Lookout, or wildlife spotting.
• Visit Devils@Cradle to see Tasmanian devils up close.
• Second night in the park.

Day 9: Cradle Mountain to Strahan (Approx. 2.5 hrs)

• Wind through the stunning West Coast wilderness.
• Arrive in Strahan – stroll along Ocean Beach or check out Henty Dunes.
• Optional: Book a Gordon River cruise for next morning.
• Overnight at Strahan Holiday Retreat or similar.

Day 10: Strahan to Hobart (Approx. 5 hrs)

• Long but beautiful drive back to Hobart via Queenstown and Lake St Clair.
• Option to stop at Russell Falls in Mount Field National Park.
• Return your campervan and enjoy a final night in Hobart.

Tips:
- Many campsites in Tasmania require bookings, especially in national parks.
- Be mindful of wildlife on the roads, especially at dawn and dusk.
- Weather can be unpredictable – pack layers and waterproofs.
- Tasmania may appear compact, but travel time can be longer due to winding roads.
