What happens when the ground conditions do not match the soil report?

During screw pile installation for a new Early Learning Centre in Werribee, piles began reaching refusal at significantly different depths across the site.

Some encountered obstructions from approximately 500mm below the surface, while others progressed much deeper.

Because the refusal depths were inconsistent, the team could not assume the piles had reached a uniform rock layer. Further investigation and extensive pre-drilling were required to get through the difficult upper ground conditions and install each pile to the correct founding layer.

Pile Vic ultimately installed 193 screw piles to a minimum depth of 2.8 metres, using two crews and completing selected pile-cap welding on site.

The project demonstrates why experience, adaptability and clear communication matter when actual site conditions differ from what was expected.
