One custom cabinet. Multiple aircraft platforms. Built for deep airframe maintenance. 🚁✈️

While helicopters and narrow-body business jets may look very different, the tools required for deep airframe maintenance often have more in common than many people realise.

By understanding the maintenance requirements across multiple aircraft platforms, it is possible to create a single, custom tool control solution that supports both rotary-wing and fixed-wing maintenance — reducing duplication, improving organisation, and giving technicians access to the tools they need in one purpose-built cabinet.

This custom 11-drawer airframe cabinet was designed for the heavy maintenance facility of an aeromedical rescue and medical repatriation provider, supporting deep maintenance activities across a diverse fleet.

From AW139 and Bell 412 helicopters to BK117 helicopters and Challenger 604 air ambulance jets, this cabinet provides a dedicated, organised solution tailored to the requirements of a multi-platform aviation environment.

Every drawer, every tool location, and every detail is designed to support efficient maintenance workflows, improve tool control, and help maintenance teams stay focused on what they do best — maintaining aircraft to the highest standards.

Does your toolbox accept a tool when it’s greasy? Scratched? Label peeled off? Or facing the wrong way?

With electronic tool cabinets that use camera technology, a change in tool appearance often means the system doesn‘t think it’s the right tool - because it doesn’t match the picture in the database.

The kabTRAK uses sensors within the foam to instantly detect tool movements. No long wait time waiting for the cabinet to scan the contents, no issues with tool appearance.

✈️ Only ~5% of the world’s population has ever flown!

Air travel might feel like an everyday part of modern life, but the vast majority of people on Earth have never stepped inside an aircraft.

And for those who do fly, there’s a whole world of work happening behind the scenes to make every journey possible. 🔧🛠️

Aircraft maintenance teams inspect, service and maintain these incredibly complex machines - with every tool accounted for and every job done with precision.

Because when you’re responsible for keeping an aircraft in the sky, tool control isn’t just about organisation. It’s about safety.

That’s something worth keeping TRAK of. 😉

Electronic automated smart tool control is only useful in Aviation - is it? 🤨

Other industries might not need a digital logbook of all tool movements for compliance with regulations.

But they might also be affected if a tool is left behind in vital equipment - in a conveyor belt, an engine, or an assembly line - causing damage, costly downtime, reduced productivity and delays.

In addition, the kabTRAK monitors tool condition, calibration status and consumable stock levels.

Reports for procurement list tools that need replacement.

Reports show which tools need to be scheduled for calibration.

Reports show which tools get used the most, or not at all, break the most, get lost the most - providing detailed insight into your production processes.

Did we get it right? 👀 What they suggested → What we delivered.

This dual-colour foam inlay is heading to our customer, ready to be added into their existing tool cabinet for train wagon maintenance.

No new cabinet required. No need to replace a perfectly good storage system. Just a precision-cut foam inlay designed around the tools they already use.

And that’s one of the great things about foam tool control: it isn’t just for aviation.

Wherever tools need to be organised, protected and accounted for, a custom foam inlay can help.
A few foam facts:
🔹 Every tool gets its own dedicated position, making it quicker to find and return tools.
🔹 The contrasting layers create a clear visual “shadow” when a tool is missing.
🔹 Foam helps hold tools securely in place and protects them from knocks and movement.
🔹 A well-designed inlay can be made to fit an existing drawer, cabinet, case or toolbox.
🔹 Visual tool control makes it much easier to spot a missing tool at a glance - helping reduce the risk of tools being left behind in a maintenance environment.

State-of-the-art tool tracking for a state-of-the-art engine overhaul facility.

These four kabTRAK electronic tool cabinets are on their way to Cyprus, where they’ll be installed in a new state-of-the-art aircraft engine maintenance and overhaul facility with a B1 Turbine Rating for CFM International LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B - supporting advanced engine maintenance and overhaul operations in a highly controlled aviation environment.

Each 10-drawer cabinet has been fitted with precision-milled foam and a comprehensive range of maintenance tools, including picks and forceps, pliers and cutters, screwdrivers, hammers and chisels, ratchets, sockets and accessories, tap and die sets, and a wide range of wrenches.

In aircraft engine maintenance, precision is everything. A small mistake or a tool left behind can result in extensive engine damage, significant repair costs, operational disruption, and serious safety risks. That’s why tool accountability is not just about organisation - it’s about maintaining control over every tool, every time.

kabTRAK provides real-time electronic tool tracking and complete visibility of tool movements, helping MRO teams maintain accountability, support FOD prevention, and maintain the high standards that aviation maintenance demands.

Small tools. Smarter storage. 🔧

Not every tool needs a full-sized foam cutout.

These mini foam inlays fit into larger foam inlays, giving small sets of items like insert bits, adapters and other easily misplaced components their own compact, organised space.

Instead of carrying an entire kit or a handful of loose bits, the mini inlay keeps the set together while making it easy to see exactly what should be there.

And when something is missing? You’ll know immediately. 👀

Foam in foam = better organisation, easier tool control and less time searching for that one missing bit.

🌈 Tool status at a glance

The kabTRAK electronic hand tool cabinet uses intuitive colour coding on its touchscreen, so technicians can instantly see the status of every tool.

Cabinet locked
🟢 Green screen – all tools accounted for
🔴 Red screen – one or more tools are out

Cabinet unlocked
Once a user swipes their card, selects the aircraft tail number, unlocks the cabinet, and opens a drawer, the status of each tool is displayed on the screen:
🔵 Blue – tool available
🟢 Green – tool issued to you
🔴 Red – tool issued to another user
🟠 Orange – tool unserviceable and needs repair, replacement or re-calibration
🟡 Yellow – tool set incomplete
⚪ White – tool permanently removed from the inventory (the kit is complete without it)

These are just some of the status indicators available within kabTRAK. The system includes a range of additional features and can be customised to suit your facility’s tool control procedures and operational requirements.

A simple colour system that improves accountability, reduces errors, and helps maintain complete tool control.

Smarter. Safer. Faster.
