🤝 Delivering the Best Fit, Not Just the Foam

Every foam inlay we manufacture undergoes a fit check before it leaves our facility.

While the foam is designed using precise measurements and CAD data, we physically verify that every tool fits perfectly in its designated cutout. This final quality assurance step helps ensure our customers receive a solution that performs exactly as intended from day one.

For this project, we produced new dual-colour foam inlays for an existing sheetmetal maintenance cabinet. The foam was designed around the customer's current tool inventory and will soon be supporting maintenance operations at a commercial airline maintenance hub.

When we talk about fit, we're not just checking that a tool matches its outline. We verify pocket depths and stepped cutouts so tools lie flat without wobbling. We ensure the fit is secure enough to keep tools in place, while still allowing them to be removed easily. We also optimise the placement of finger lift-outs so technicians can quickly and comfortably retrieve each tool.

These details may seem small, but they make a significant difference to the usability of the finished kit.

Just as importantly, we take the design work off our customers' hands. Drawing on years of experience designing tool control solutions, we create layouts that balance accessibility, accountability, protection and efficient use of space. This saves our customers valuable time and helps avoid the cost and frustration of trial-and-error designs or foam that needs to be recut.

This extra step reflects our commitment to delivering the best possible solution for every customer. Attention to detail, quality assurance, and customer satisfaction are built into every stage of the process.

We're not just delivering foam, we're delivering confidence that the solution will work exactly as expected.

🔧 Small kit. Big workload.

These compact sheetmetal grab kits are in constant use supporting maintenance activities on the Navy’s MH-60R Seahawk fleet - from structural repairs and aircraft refurbishment to modifications and inspection work. ✈️

Each kit contains a single foam inlay, keeping essential tools organised, protected, and ready to grab at a moment’s notice.

With everything from pneumatic drills and drill bits to cleco pliers, inspection mirrors, rulers, torches, and hammers all in one compact setup, these kits have become a permanent fixture on benches across the workshop.

When the job is demanding, having the right tools within arm’s reach makes all the difference.

Replacing just ONE turbine blade on a jet engine can cost around US$10,000…
A full set? Try roughly US$750,000 😳

Why so expensive?

Jet engine turbine blades operate in some of the harshest conditions imaginable:
🔥 Temperatures exceeding 2,500°F / 1,370°C
⚙️ Spinning at thousands of RPM
💨 Handling extreme pressure, vibration and centrifugal force

They’re made from highly advanced heat-resistant alloys and engineered to incredibly tight tolerances. Even a tiny crack, chip or slight bend can reduce engine efficiency, increase fuel burn, or in worst cases lead to serious engine damage.

That’s why inspection, accountability and precision matter so much in aviation maintenance. One small issue can have very big consequences.

That takes way too long! 😡
Why do that for every single tool? 😭
I don’t have time for that! 🤬

Those are the comments we get the most.

Let me show you how fast you can issue and return tools with this kabTRAK electronic tool control cabinet.

Logging in and out adds maybe 5 seconds per transaction. But how long would it take you to fill in the paper logbook? 😅

You can take (and return) as many tools as you’d like in one transaction, from multiple drawers. The movement is recorded instantly - no waiting around, no writing in a logbook. It’s all automated for you and your mechanics.

Did we pick the right tools? 🤔

This is a cabinet for a helicopter Avionics maintenance workshop.

It fits under the work bench, multiple cabinets can be positioned side by side without gaps and the front handles make it easy to move around.

Plus the drawers are deeper than a standard cabinet, for maximum storage capacity.

The foam is etched with part numbers or descriptions, each tool is laser etched with the toolkit part number - for easy identification should a tool go missing.

What would you change?

📝 Electronic Logbooks: More Than Just Going Paperless

Paper records can tell you what happened.

Electronic logbooks can tell you which item was taken, when it happened, who took it, and which aircraft it was taken to.

Instead of relying on handwritten entries, spreadsheets, or manual sign-out sheets, electronic logbooks provide a centralised source of truth across your entire operation.

When every item movement is automatically recorded, teams spend less time searching, documenting, and chasing information—and more time focusing on the job.

The result?
✅ Instant accountability and traceability
✅ Automated audit trails and reporting
✅ Reduced paperwork and administration
✅ Faster investigations and root cause analysis
✅ Improved calibration and service scheduling
✅ Better visibility of asset status and location
✅ Reduced risk of FOD and misplaced equipment
✅ Real-time access to records from anywhere

Digital records don't just improve compliance. They improve productivity, planning, accountability, and decision-making.

With digital tool control solutions like kabTRAK, cribTRAK, portaTRAK, and lokkaTRAK, every transaction is automatically recorded, creating a live electronic logbook of your tools, equipment, and assets:
🔹 kabTRAK tracks individual tools and equipment directly at the point of use
🔹 cribTRAK manages toolcrib issue and return transactions using barcode and RFID technology
🔹 portaTRAK tracks complete portable toolkits and verifies they are returned complete
🔹 lokkaTRAK provides secure, unmanned storage and tracking of tools, equipment, and kits in lockers close to the job

Keep aircraft flying. Keep your records accurate. Keep TRAK.

Fit check before shipping ✅

We check every tool fits perfectly into its cutout before delivering the foam to our customers.

In this case, we cut new dual colour foam inlays that will go into an existing cabinet with the customers existing sheetmetal maintenance tools.

This kit will be supplied to a commercial airline maintenance hub.

Precision Starts With Organisation ✈️🛠️ Part 2 of 2

Purpose-built for experienced aircraft structures and sheetmetal technicians, these two custom tool control cabinets were configured to support the demanding day-to-day work of Cert II Structures / Sheetmetal Mechanics performing aircraft structural inspection, repair, modification, and fabrication tasks.

Each cabinet features 7 drawers plus a lockable door for storage of larger equipment, combining high-density tool control with practical storage for oversized items used in structural maintenance environments.

Cabinet one is dedicated to core structural fastening and installation tooling, posted last week.

Cabinet two focuses on precision measurement, fabrication, and finishing tools:
• Pliers & safety wire twisting pliers
• Combination squares
• Tap & torque wrenches
• Drill bits
• Number & letter stamp sets with hammers
• Micrometers & calipers

When working to tight tolerances on structural components, efficiency isn’t optional, it’s operational necessity. Immediate tool access supports faster decision-making, cleaner workflow, and reduced downtime across maintenance tasks.

With CNC-cut dual-colour foam inlays enabling Visual Tool Control, every item is instantly identifiable and accounted for - supporting accuracy, efficiency, and FOD prevention in high-tempo maintenance environments.

🔧 A Complete Avionics Toolkit, Built for Under-Bench Storage

This is not one of our usual freestanding hangar cabinets. This 5-drawer avionics maintenance toolkit for an ambulance rescue helicopter service has a compact, square footprint with deeper-than-standard drawers, allowing it to sit neatly under a standard workbench - keeping tooling at hand while freeing up valuable workshop floor space.

No walking. No searching. No unnecessary movement.

The front-mounted handles make the cabinet easy to manoeuvre around the workshop, while multiple units can be positioned side-by-side with no wasted gaps between cabinets. A scalable layout designed for real maintenance environments.

The toolkit includes a range of avionics maintenance essentials:
✔️ Crimping tools and positioners
✔️ Wire cutters
✔️ Contact installation and removal tools
✔️ Precision screwdrivers, picks and pliers
✔️ Multimeter and insulation tester
✔️ Comprehensive range of test leads

The custom dual-colour shadow foam is laser etched with tool descriptions, making it fast to locate the correct tool, immediately identify what’s missing, and ensure every item is returned to its correct position.

The result is a tighter workflow between bench and storage, improved tool control, and faster, more efficient maintenance activity.
