Nothing beats the sound of a V8 Y62 Patrol, but this one just left the shop sounding and looking like a total weapon. We’ve spent some time kitting out this rig to make sure it’s as capable off-road as it is comfortable on the highway.
Whether you're a Towing Tourer or a Rooftop Wanderer, this build is a prime example of how to set up a Patrol for serious Aussie adventures.
We fitted the Raid Bullbar. It’s winch-compatible, features integrated recovery points, and has a built-in LED bar that turns night into day. It keeps the sleek lines of the Y62 while providing the protection you actually need.
No more worrying about the fridge dying. We installed a 12V powerhouse featuring an Invicta slimline lithium battery tucked away neatly, managed by a Redarc BCDC charger.
To keep those batteries topped up while camped, there’s a 160W solar panel mounted to the Yakima roof rack. Inside, a drawer kit keeps the gear organised and easy to grab.
The Essentials: For the long hauls and heavy hauls, we rounded it out with a Uniden UHF Radio for crystal-clear comms and a heavy-duty Tag Towbar for whatever the owner is hitching up.
We don't believe in adding gear just for the sake of it. Every bit of kit on this Patrol serves a purpose: keeping the family safe, the beer cold, and the recovery options ready if things get a bit "interesting" on the track.
What do you reckon? Is the Y62 still the king of the big wagons, or has the new 300 Series taken the crown? Let us know in the comments! 👇
