There’s only one place in Australia where solid timber starts this thin 😉

Layer upon layer of veneer rebuilt into one solid piece, with no composite core hiding inside. It’s solid engineered hardwood, and once it’s on the bench, it works like any other hardwood. 🪵

Right now, a group is walking through our Adelaide factory watching it happen. 👀

Come meet the humans and robots behind our material.

This Adelaide Design Week, the factory doors are open to the public for the first time, so we’re rolling out the hi-vis carpet. 🦺😉

Come round on Thursday 15 or Saturday 17 October. Bring your questions, your curiosity and a closed-toe pair of shoes. We’ll sort the rest. (Oh! and bring someone that needs to see it too!)

We’re keeping groups small so everyone can hear, ask questions and see the material properly. Register early to save your spot.

Some tributes get a plaque, this one got a tree.

The Foundation Tree stands in Aurecon’s Docklands office, built to honour their late colleague Jeffrey Robinson and the values he worked by: collective ambition, sustainable innovation, and partnerships that outlast the project that started them.

The timber is our Tasmanian Oak. Not the select-grade logs you’d expect behind something this precise, but the resources that usually get passed over.

Researchers at Melbourne School of Design worked with Aurecon’s engineers to find the form through computational design, tension cable form-finding and a lot of iterative testing. Charles Sandford took the geometry and made it buildable.

97 components, each machined in two halves on a 5-axis CNC, joined with timber dowels and a magnet-driven connection system, with custom jigs built just to hold everything in position while it went together. A closed-loop branching structure gives you nowhere to absorb a stray millimetre, so every piece had to match the digital model exactly.

The form arrived there through the same principles a tree grows by: efficiency, structural optimisation, adaptability, and letting the material show what it can do.

The Foundation Tree has recently been shortlisted in the Australian Certified Timber category at the 27th ATDA - 2026 AWARDS GALA OCTOBER Awards.

Three years in. We didn’t think we’d be here yet, talking Green Star scores. But here we are. 🥳

The Green Building Council Aus is pushing the industry toward materials that are transparent, lower-impact, and properly accounted for, and that’s exactly the territory we live in. So when Green Star Fitouts v1 started scoring products on how much responsibility sits behind them, we found out we were already there 😎

Chain of Custody + Declare Label + Product Carbon Footprint. It’s the kind of paperwork that takes years to build and we’re proud to have done the work!

Our timber lands well above best practice under GBCA’s Responsible Products Framework, and that’s not a number we’re going to keep quiet about. 😅

This was plan B. 😅

Throwback to MDW 2026: Jon Goulder and Henry Williams came to Chapter House with a plan to hang massive parabolic sculptures through the ceiling.

Heritage said absolutely not (rude, but fair 🙃).

What they built instead is the kind of scale hardwood almost never gets asked to perform at, and we got to be part of it.

None of this could have happened without the trust these two put in our material. They saw what the material could do and pushed it further than anyone had. Jon Goulder Henry Williams Studio 🙌

This is the cross-section of our material. Three hundred-odd veneers, stacked and pressed under enormous force to form a single, solid billet.

Under that kind of pressure, timber doesn’t hold still. It ripples. Every sheet bends a little differently, some more than others, none of them the same twice.

That’s what you’re seeing in this end grain. Not a pattern we designed, but a record of hundreds of small, natural shifts, each layer curving exactly where it needed to.

What comes out is a material that’s engineered for consistency but still entirely its own. 👌🏼
