Please complete this short survey to tell Sunshine Coast Council where safer infrastructure is needed to support kids walking and riding to school—such as new paths and safer crossings. It takes around 5–10 minutes, depending on how many locations you mark on the maps. The more responses, the better.

Cookies crumble. Metal kills!

People keep telling us about frightening experiences crossing at signalised intersections. This is just one of the things that can go very wrong.

Survival skills crossings! It's often not expected...drivers and pedestrians both have green lights...drivers need to give way, they often don't....

The words 'celebrate and validate' come to mind, when I think of the champions I've worked with who are doing groundwork in communities, pointing out frightening environments, and asking for change.

I think of my colleagues and clients who so naturally seek to gather these people's insights, ensuring information gets to where it can be useful for our industry.

The article finishes with a short list of ways that practitioners can celebrate and validate, tenacious stakeholders. It may also support advocates to encourage better behaviour from agencies, where it might feel somewhat lack lustre.

An active transport network without safe crossings, is like a Meccano set without the bolts!'

This is the wisdom that emerged from a great discussion with the wonderful Irene McAleese from See.Sense and Phil Latz.

Irene and Phil posed great interview questions that let me delve into everything from some terrifying near death cycling experiences, to my failures as a young engineer, learnings from parents, the upskilling that happens during maternity leave and even homo sapien threat detection systems!

It's just such a treat to have people curious and interested in the work we do and to have the time and space to discuss some of the underlying knowledge that informs the work.
