And the last of slides we have for now. These pictures were scanned from slides between March and the end of 1992 of the Geebung Head Office. It doesn’t seem that long ago until you look at the age of the cars 😅

By this stage, TJM Products was operating across three sites around Geebung: Granite Street, Morrisby Street, and another property on Morrisby Street where aluminium manufacturing had begun. As you can imagine, this meant plenty of staff movement between sites throughout the day.

To bring everything under one roof, TJM Products purchased an old paint factory on five acres at Robinson Road, Geebung. The property included 40,000 square feet of existing buildings that needed a lot of work. They converted the old structures into a fully functioning head office, warehouse, showroom, factory, and fitting bays; a huge step forward for a still-young company finding its rhythm in a growing 4WD industry.

The title of this catalogue reflected an exciting new chapter for TJM Products, the beginning of exports around the world. TJM Products first started exporting to Papua New Guinea and the USA, and soon after, Japan. In the early days, exports were low-volume, going mainly to individual customers, but before long, people from many countries were wanting to become distributors.

So why call it the Export catalogue? At the time, there was government assistance available for Australian companies developing export markets, so it made sense for TJM Products to take that step and position themselves as an emerging global brand.

This was TJM’s fourth catalogue and it featured the most comprehensive range available from any one company in Australia at the time. A notable change is that the cover was printed in full colour (a big deal and an expensive choice back then), while the inside pages were black and white with a single accent colour.

Growth was steady but modest with TJM Products quietly expanding their range and customer base to meet a growing need.

January 1980 Overlander Article

The 4wding industry was booming with more than 60 specialty 4wd businesses listed in the article. It was noted that TJM was in an impressive two-story building. They also had 25 staff which was larger than most listed.

Some of the business of the day were part of industry development such as importing certain products from overseas, some were a step aside from what TJM Products were doing, however there were some copying TJM bars, racks and tanks. Some manufacturers would even use the TJM Products catalogue as a bench mark for reference.
