Some exhibitions are viewed while others are experienced.

When members of the Richard Jay team visited The Key’s Under the Mat at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, they stepped into an installation that invites movement, interaction and shared participation from the moment you enter. Inside the Nelson Packer Tank, the space unfolds as a living environment where infrastructure, play and community intersect.

Integrated throughout the structure are the refurbished LG commercial washers and dryers our team supplied, now functioning as both sculptural elements and fully operational systems. Machines form the base of a stone table, while others hang suspended overhead.

Experiencing the work up close highlights how robust commercial equipment can operate seamlessly within an ambitious public artwork, contributing to a space built on reuse, care and collective experience.
