Bribie Island Day Trip
Bribie Island is a great place to practice your sand driving within easy reach of Brisbane.
Itinerary
We will meet at the Kenilworth Country Bakery located at 3 First Ave, Bongaree QLD 4507 (Bribie Island) at 10am for a 10:30am departure.
At 10:30am we will make our way individually to the Northern entrance to the Bribie Island Recreational Reserve located at 164–180 White Patch Esp, White Patch, Qld, 4507. At the entrance to the Recreational Reserve is a bitumen parking area where we can air down. Once everyone is ready, we will head off in convoy for Ocean Beach, which is about an hour's drive along a sandy track. The track can be undertaken in high range 4X4.
Once we reach Ocean Beach, we will turn left and drive a short distance and have a look at the old WW2 fort that is slowly being reclaimed by the sea. After that, we will drive South on Ocean Beach and will look for somewhere to stop and have lunch, possibly next to one of the lagoons set back from the beach. Bring a packed lunch.
After lunch, there is the choice to continue South and exit the beach at Woorim (shorter route) or to retrace our steps and take the longer way home with more beach and track driving. After exiting the Recreational Reserve, at either the South or North exit, we will air up, say our goodbyes and head home.
Permit Required
In order to drive in the Recreational Area, you will need to obtain a permit, which can be obtained at https://book.parks.qld.gov.au/vehicle-access-permit-bribie-island #/tours/146904 You can either buy a one-week permit for $57.40 or a one-year permit for $179.20 if you plan on coming back a few times. The Recreational Reserve uses a licence plate recognition system. If you don't have a permit, you will be fined.
