Hardie Matrix Cladding gives a facade a panelised look with 10mm expressed joints, laid out in square, vertical, horizontal or brick patterns. These James Hardie homes show it on its own and alongside Axon, Linea and Oblique.

The panels are 8mm fibre cement, come pre-primed and fix to timber or light gauge steel frames.

After the heavy rain around Brisbane, Siniat's guide to assessing wet plasterboard is worth a look before you patch a water-damaged wall or ceiling.

Find and stop the source of the water first, then let the board and frame dry completely before you assess it. Siniat notes mould can start growing within 24 to 48 hours and recommends replacing the affected area if there's any doubt about the installation.

👉️ Signs it needs replacing: sagging, a soft or swollen core, joint distortion, paper delamination, popped fasteners, corroded steel framing or heavy mould
👉️ Safety first: power off, and prop sagging or saturated ceilings before drilling
👉️ Siniat can't validate fire rated or specialty boards once they've been water damaged

Following on from last week's multi-residential post, this is Siniat Interhome, the separating wall system for townhouses, duplexes and apartments.

A single layer of 25mm Intershield sits between the two frames as a central fire barrier and also handles sound insulation. It works with timber or steel framing, and the internal linings and their penetrations don't need to be fire rated, which makes the rest of the wall easier to install.

A modern farmhouse in Gumdale, built by Bellevue Design and Construction and clad in Hardie Oblique run vertically. It's one of the case study homes from James Hardie's Modern Homes Forecast.

Oblique has square and angled groove edges spaced 175mm apart, so the wall picks up highlights and shadow as the light moves across it. Vertical installs go on to Hardie Structural Battens for drainage and ventilation.

Wedi building boards have a blue XPS foam core that is waterproof on its own, so a scuff in the mortar coating doesn't affect the board. They fix to concrete, masonry, plasterboard, timber and old tiles and you can tile straight over them.

Pair them with a Fundo shower element and the fall to the drain is already built in. The low installation height suits bathroom renos where there isn't much depth to work with.
