Building Industrial Capability in Indonesia Through Partnership

Berg Engineering recently met with Allied Makmur Services to explore a strategic collaboration focused on supporting Indonesia’s growing mining and industrial sectors.

This partnership brings together complementary strengths:

Allied Makmur Services’ local presence, relationships, and market knowledge
Berg Engineering’s manufacturing capability, engineering expertise, and asset reliability experience in demanding industries
Together, the focus is simple — improve responsiveness, strengthen local support, and deliver more reliable engineering solutions to customers across Indonesia.

Following the meeting, Berg Engineering Principal Partner Nilu Berg participated in a traditional gong ceremony, symbolising the start of a long-term partnership built on trust, respect, and shared ambition.

This is not just collaboration — it is capability building for the future of industrial services in Indonesia.

We look forward to what we will achieve together.

🔹 Throw Back Thursday 🔹

54 Years of Berg Engineering
From a One-Car Garage to an Industry Leader
1972 → 2026

1972
Berg Engineering began as a small family-operated workshop in a one-car garage on the Brisbane River in Bulimba, Queensland.

Supporting local Australian manufacturing, the business was built on hard work, craftsmanship, and a commitment to quality.

2026
More than five decades later, Berg Engineering has grown into a multi-facility engineering company focused on optimising assets, improving reliability, and creating long-term value for our clients across Australia and Southeast Asia.

From a family workshop to a trusted engineering partner for some of the world's largest mining, minerals processing and industrial operations — our commitment remains unchanged.

Built on family values.
Driven by engineering excellence.

Hardfacing applications on alloy steels require more than welding capability — they demand careful procedure development and a strong understanding of material compatibility.

Our team recently completed the development and qualification of a Procedure Qualification Record (PQR) for a hardfacing application on ASTM A182 F22 Cr-Mo steel.

The procedure utilised a GMAW ERNiCr-3 buttering layer, followed by a GTAW Stellite 6 hardfacing overlay. The nickel alloy buttering layer provides a metallurgically compatible transition between the Cr-Mo substrate and the cobalt-based hardfacing alloy, helping minimise dilution while reducing the risk of cracking.

The final weld produced a controlled multi-pass overlay with consistent bead deposition, allowing the Stellite layer to maintain its required wear-resistant properties.

Procedure development and qualification like this highlight the importance of process control, metallurgical understanding, and disciplined welding practices when working with alloy steels.

Modern projects are increasingly interface-heavy. Mechanical, structural, process, maintenance, and operational requirements must align seamlessly.
Without coordination, complexity multiplies.

Berg Engineering integrates multidisciplinary planning from the outset — ensuring alignment across teams and minimising late-stage changes that disrupt schedule and cost performance.

Effective coordination transforms complexity into controlled ex*****on.

Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) is a critical control point in any major refurbishment program — ensuring component condition is clearly understood before further engineering decisions are made.

This 12LN21 Nickel Lined Casing underwent a structured Strip and Assessment process in our workshop. Following disassembly, the casing was blasted internally and externally, leak tested, and prepared for detailed inspection in accordance with client specifications.

The NDE scope included:
• PT (Dye Penetrant Testing) on all nickel-lined components
• MT (Magnetic Particle Testing) on carbon steel areas
• UT (Ultrasonic Testing) to verify casing thickness

All testing was performed to required standards, with results compiled into a comprehensive NDE report identifying compliance and any areas requiring attention.

A disciplined inspection phase like this reduces uncertainty, supports informed repair strategies, and ensures refurbishment work proceeds on verified data — not assumptions.

At Berg Engineering, quality assurance is not a checkpoint. It is embedded in every stage of the process.
