Not all corrugated water tanks are built the same.

Many standard corrugated tanks use around 0.6mm steel.

At Matilda Water Tanks, we use a minimum 1.0mm corrugated steel profile and on larger tanks, we can increase the thickness again where the pressure is greatest.
Why does that matter?

More steel means a stronger tank and a greater safety margin when dealing with water pressure, settlement and changing ground conditions.

It’s worth asking one simple question before choosing your next tank:

For many acreage properties, the water tank isn’t a backup. It’s part of everyday life.

Smaller tank. Same attention to the build.

This MT28 in Monument is one of our more compact installations, but that doesn’t mean the construction gets lighter.

Luke points out that Matilda’s 1.0mm corrugated steel can actually make smaller-diameter tanks harder to form because the sheets need to pull around a tighter curve.

It’s another example of why tank size doesn’t change our approach to strength and construction.

A water tank liner shouldn’t be stretched drum-tight.

At Matilda Water Tanks, we deliberately allow extra material in the liner so it can move with the tank over time.

Why? Because ground conditions change. As the tank settles, that extra movement helps reduce unnecessary stress around fittings and other pressure points.
We also use a heavy-duty 700gsm liner for added strength, puncture resistance and durability.

It’s one of those details you might never see once the tank is full, but it matters long term.

375,000 litres of water reserved for fire protection.

This Matilda Water Tank forms part of the fire-protection system at a recycling facility in West Nowra, where access to a large volume of water is an important part of the wider site safety system.

Projects like this are a reminder that commercial water storage is not just about choosing a capacity. The tank has to be fit for the application and work with the system around it.

Some projects need more than one tank. This one needed a complete site water-storage solution.

For a leading agricultural producer in northern NSW, the Matilda team installed a large multi-tank system designed to suit the site’s water requirements.

Five installers had the tanks standing in around a week, followed by a short return visit for the final fit-out work.

Projects like this are about more than litres. The tanks need to work with the wider system, the trades on site and the way the water will actually be used.

From individual rural tanks to large commercial and agricultural installations, we build on site and work with the people around the project.
